Our Algarve holidays

Europe at its sunniest but not its hottest – thanks to the beautiful Atlantic breeze – the Portugal’s Algarve is justifiably popular. Our holidays are perfect if you want to explore; not just the gorgeous golden beaches but the cliffs behind them, and the dunes behind those, and the wetland areas behind those, and the forests behind those – until you’ve peeled back the landscape’s every layer. Our Algarve holidays will get under your skin, too, whether that’s feeding you Fado music, Sagres views or fish stews cooked in a cataplana (clamshell-shaped metal cooker). We use local guides and Portugal’s turismo no espaço rural, family-run rural places to stay, so you can really get to know the area.

Exploring by bike

Feeling sprightly, and travelling lightly, you can cover a lot of ground on our cycling and e biking tours. You’ll follow tempting routes into the countryside, to find rural Portugal’s traditional towns surrounded by nature reserves and farmland. Cycling between sights takes a car off the road in a busy tourist region – and replaces it with someone hungry for a snack in the next village, and easily tempted by the pastries and coffee in the town centre. With your luggage transferred ahead of you, you are free to buy local produce each day, from Portuguese wine to picnic ingredients.

Out and about on foot

On our walking holidays you’ll walk in cork, olive and almond groves, or find sandy trails along dunes, the sea never far away. The Algarve is hemmed by carefully maintained long distance routes – the Via Algarviana that goes to the Spanish border, and the Rota Vincentina, which goes right up through neighbouring Alentejo. Walking here is lovely outside of the peak summer season particularly, and our holidays on sections of these trails allow towns to benefit from rambling visitors coming outside of the peak months of the year.

Lovely places to stay

If you just want a beautiful bolthole, a place to stay put for a few days – then don’t compromise. Our accommodation in the Algarve takes sea views as seriously as their behind-the-scenes environmental credentials like solar panels, water saving mechanisms, biomass burners and options for plant-based catering. So, whilst you can enjoy traditional properties in stunning surrounds, know that the bird boxes and bee friendly planting are contributing to that special Algarve atmosphere too.

Nature reserves & protected areas

The Algarve is heaven for holidaymakers but a heaven for wildlife too, thanks to several important protected areas. The Southwest Alentejo and Vicentina Coast Natural Park protects the southwest coast, whilst running north inland in the southeast you’ll find Guadiana Valley Natural Park. And you might pick out pale pink flamingos against the waters in Ria Formosa Natural Park, a large estuary full of low-lying salt marsh. Birds love these wetlands – you will, too. Our holidays work with local people who are committed to protecting their surroundings, whether you’re in a protected area or not.

A great holiday, different places to visit each time and lovely hotels. Bert gave great information and was there to help so that's' a great comfort when you are moving to different places every day. The bags were there waiting when we checked in. Highly recommend.read more

Climbing down to deserted beaches - not often swimmable because of rocks, waves and currents, but beautiful, and great for a cooling dip. Seeing the changes in vegetation as we went South. We also enjoyed the interesting inland sections, and coming across Moorish ruins.read more

A wonderful holiday…. Total freedom. The not knowing what was around the next corner, the freedom of the bikes, cycling along with nothing to organise as it was all done for us by Bert. The bikes were very comfortable with smooth gears and gel saddles. Bert met us in Loule and fitted us for the bikes helmets etc and went through all aspects of the trip. He was available should we need him but everything went so well not even a puncture. We used the app recommended by Bert but he also gave written...read more
