Travel guides
With the right guides, lodges and itinerary, a safari makes an amazing family holiday, and you can even end on the beach.
At Responsible Travel, we don’t support zoos; we believe spotting wildlife in the wild is the best way to see it.
Responsible Travel
As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we've screened this (and every) holiday so that you can travel knowing we've worked to maximise the benefits of your holiday to local people and places, and minimise any negative impacts.
Planet
CARBON REDUCTIONThere are four days on this trip that support human powered transport. For example day 2, there is a nature walk in Mabira forest and another on day 11 in Kalinzu forest. There is a wildlife safari walk in Lake Mburo on day 12 and a swamp walk in Bigodi swamp on the 7th day of this trip. Walking relies solely on the energy generated by the human body, making it a sustainable and renewable form of transportation. It doesn't require any external fuel or power source, which means it has minimal environmental impact and is not subject to the availability or price fluctuations of fossil fuels.
The Boma Hotel uses solar water heaters for all the showers. This reduces the electricity consumption of the hotel drastically.
ENVIRONMENT
Accommodations on this trip have policies that reduce their environmental impacts for example, The Boma Hotel utilizes a water catchment system that enables them to catch and store rainwater in separate tanks which is later used for gardening and so many other activities.
The Boma Hotel supports Papercraft, a grass roots project that makes eco-friendly products such as their menu covers, recycled paper used in albums, note books and glass beads. They also make the hand-made soaps that are used in their guest bedrooms. All of their glass waste (wine bottles, broken glasses, jam jars) and all of their paper waste is taken to Papercraft and recycled.
Plants play a crucial role in sequestering carbon dioxide from the atmosphere through photosynthesis. By growing plants at home, you can actively participate in reducing CO2 levels in the environment. This helps mitigate climate change and restores the natural balance of carbon in the atmosphere. For instance The Boma Hotel restores nature by home-growing most of their salad ingredients and a good deal of their fruits and vegetables, in their managers garden which is about a 5 minute cycle from The Boma. They also compost organic waste from The Boma to make fertilizer.
People
LOCAL ECONOMYMost of the accommodations we use on this trip are locally owned for example The Boma Hotel. This means that the qualified locals get first priority during the process of hiring staff giving them an opportunity to earn therefore improving their standards of living.
During this trip, we get an opportunity to maximize other economic employment opportunities for example there is a stopover at the Mpigi Royal Drum Makers where you will witness the making of ceremonial drums using methods passed down for many generations. This kind of activity supports the locals in a way that some clients can choose to buy crafts like the small drums which are normally used for decoration in houses therefore supporting the makers and helping them earn a living.
EMPLOYMENT, INCLUSIVITY AND DIVERSITY
100% of the people employed at primate world safaris are from the Country and most of them are from the local community for example the park rangers, porters, guides etc. are all local people. We also offer them internal training more so for the guides which equips them with current information helping them grow and become better everyday that comes.
