Responsible Travel
As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we've screened this (and every) holiday so that you can travel knowing we've worked to maximise the benefits of your holiday to local people and places, and minimise any negative impacts.
Planet
Carbon ReductionWe have tried as far as possible to reduce the carbon we use on this tour, Algeria is a vast country (the largest in Africa) so it is not possible to eliminate all internal flights;
One of the magical parts of this trip is how remote our desert camps are completely off the grid, in spectacular settings with no one else around.
switch off and embrace a slower pace (with no mobile signal) as we spend five nights wild camping in the desert with our crew.
As a travel company we're acutely aware of our impact on the environment. Each one of our tours displays a carbon footprint, and we're working to reduce our emissions by regularly reviewing our itineraries and embracing lower-impact styles of travel such as trains, public buses or walking – which aren't just better for the planet, but we believe offer a more enjoyable and authentic travel experience too. We're a Certified B Corp that's committed to creating unforgettable adventures while protecting our planet for future generations.
Environment and Wildlife
We visit the historic M'Zab valley on this trip on the edge of the Sahara, water is very scarce in this region; customers are briefed to conserve water as much as possible.
We strive to support nature and biodiversity through protection and regeneration projects, and for every customer that travels with us we make a donation to Rewilding Britain and Cool Earth.
We encourage customers to avoid single-use plastic on tour, and our leaders give advice on refill points each day. Where tap water isn't safe to drink we recommend Water-to-Go bottles, a filtration bottle allowing you to drink water from any source.
People
Local EconomyTourism is very much in its infancy in Algeria, we won't see many other groups; all our lunch stops will be local restaurants which directly puts money back into the communities we pass through. Its the same with the hotels, outside of Constantine we use Algerian owned and managed properties. We have also included a meal with a local family in the M'Zab valley as a way of having a great local authentic experience and helping support the community we pass through.
Algeria has a developing tourist infrastructure and receives far fewer visitors than neighbouring countries; that said the country is very welcoming, we will use local guides to help bring the history and culture of the regions we pass through to life, imparting their expert local knowledge.
Our leaders are the heart of tours. They bring passion and unrivalled knowledge of the destinations and communities that we visit. Their guidance ensures we observe the cultural norms in a destination, they act as a bridge between travellers and the local community and ensure that tourism is a positive experience for both host and guest. We believe in supporting local; staying in locally-run hotels, exploring markets, buying snacks from street vendors, and by doing this we add money to the local economy and enhance our connection with the local community.
Employment, Inclusivity and Diversity
We believe that diversity is to be celebrated and as a Certified B Corp we're committed to championing equity and inclusion throughout our entire supply chain. We believe that an inclusive approach is essential, and that the best results occur when contributors have different opinions, experiences and backgrounds to bring to the table. Our local team have operated for many years and recruit their staff directly from the region where they are based.
