CARBON REDUCTIONMetsahirvas prioritizes sustainability in many aspects such as to efficiently using water and energy, and introducing solar panels to minimize our environmental impact and preserve the pristine beauty of Lapland:
Each room is equipped with energy-saving lamps and water-saving showers, significantly reducing the resource consumption while maintaining guest comfort. Their commitment to sustainability is also evident in the waste management practices, where Metsahirvas rigorously sort and recycle waste to minimize the environmental footprint.
Additionally, in 2022, Metsahirvas installed solar panels that enable them to operate on nearly 100% renewable energy. This initiative is a significant step in reducing the resorts' reliance on fossil fuels and lowering carbon emissions, which therefore is contributing to the global effort to combat climate change.
Finally, Metsahirvas collaborates with local entrepreneurs to ensure a wide range of year-round activities are offered, such as snowmobiling, which starts right from our hotel yard, minimizing the need for additional transportation to and from activities. These partnerships not only provide our guests with authentic local experiences but also support the livelihoods of local businesses and reduce our carbon footprint.
ENVIRONMENT AND WILDLIFE
Metsahirvas installed a tree planting initiative, whereby for every guest who stays, a tree is planted on the hotel owner’s land. This initiative not only offsets the carbon footprint of our guests but also contributes to the reforestation and biodiversity of the region, enhancing the natural landscape for future generations of both locals and tourists.
Metsahirvas is committed to preserving local wildlife. This is reflected in the bird nesting boxes they have installed around the premises. These provide safe habitats for native bird species, supporting biodiversity and aligning our operations with the natural environment.
Finally, to contribute towards travelling responsibly and looking after the planet, Metsahirvas’ housekeeping team uses eco-friendly cleaning products, ensuring that the chemicals used in maintaining our spaces are safe for both our guests and the environment.
People
EMPLOYMENT, INCLUSIVITY AND DIVERSITYThe team at Metsahirvas are deeply committed to creating an inclusive and supportive environment for both our guests and our community. This blend of local expertise and global perspectives ensures that we provide a rich and welcoming experience for all our guests.
One aspect which the Metsahirvas team take pride in is being proud members of the LGBTQ+ Friendly We Speak Gay community. In doing so, they have earned the Travel Proud rainbow badge from Booking.com. Naturally, they actively promote inclusivity and diversity, ensuring that every guest feels respected and valued during their stay, and without discrimination.
LOCAL ECONOMY
Pure Lapland and Metsahirvas are committed to supporting the local community through various initiatives, such as financially supporting local children’s sports teams, contributing to the well-being and development of the community’s youth. Additionally, the resort works alongside small local companies for employment purposes, as well as handymen for renovation and maintenance work, ensuring that our economic impact directly benefits the local economy and maintains travelling responsibly.
Finally, local and sustainable products throughout the premises and when involved in operations. The restaurant serves organic, Fair-Trade coffee, and local food and meat products, providing guests with a taste of the region’s finest offerings while supporting local farmers. Additionally, guests can purchase souvenirs crafted by local entrepreneur Keijo Petäjäjärvi, further supporting the local economy and promoting regional culture.
In summary, the dedication from Pure Lapland and Metsahirvas when contributing towards sustainability and community engagement is what ensures they can operate as a responsible travel company, whilst still ensuring that our guests enjoy an enriching, sustainable, and unforgettable travel experience.
