Our Bali holidays & tours

Despite overtourism and a somewhat unfair reputation as a party island, Bali continues to beguile with its beautiful landscapes and creative culture, and there are plenty of places still where you can find serenity and space. Bali is often paired with neighbouring islands Lombok and Java but adventurous travellers can also combine time here with Flores, Rinca and Komodo on wildlife holidays. Sadly, animal exploitation is rife in the tourism industry but you won’t find any unsavoury photo opportunities or cruel civet coffee tastings on these trips. Plastic waste is another major issue and our tours take practical steps to help combat it, providing you with reusable cutlery, water bottles and canvas bags for shopping – you’ll do a lot of shopping in Bali. Our Bali holidays have it all – you just need to pick the bit that suits you.

Bali holiday highlights

Hinduism reigns supreme in Bali with Pura Taman Ayun in Mengwi, and Ulun Danu Bratan and Pura Tanah Lot at Bereban, three temples to build into a tour.

Cultural heritage

Rural communities are founded around family and worship with water temples adorning fields, gardens and rice paddies in accordance with Subak – the sustainable and sacred system of irrigation. Learning about Subak makes a fascinating addition to a guided walk within Bali's magnificent central highlands. And just as integral to Balinese cultural heritage is food. There's no better way to discover the secret spices involved in an authentic Nasi Goring or Nasi Campur on a holiday in Bali than joining a cooking class led by a brilliant local chef.

Dive in

Snorkelling and diving rank as two of the most unforgettable experiences on our Bali holidays. There is a string of sites along the north and east coasts showcasing coral gardens flush with tropical fish, barrel sponges and sea anemones, no distance at all from the shore. The coral-covered WW2 wreck at Tulamben is breathtaking with a ban on fishing inviting vast numbers of of eels, octopus, squid and barracuda alongside shoals of damsel, butterfly and clown fish. Nusa Lembongan and Nusa Penida, just off the southeast coast, promise manta rays via dive boats around Penida whilst at Mangrove Point on Lembongan, currents are much gentler to allow a safe drift over fish-filled coral nurseries. Bali Barat National Park always promises successful snorkelling with Menjangan Island, particularly the shallow reef, coral canyon and subsequent drop off, conjuring up sea turtles, white tipped sharks, eagle and sting rays.

Rice terraces

Away from Bali’s beaches it’s rice terraces melting over hillsides like clocks in Dali's Persistence of Memory that attract those seeking solace from the heat. Central highland villages like Jatiluwih, overlooked by Mt Batukaru, are awash with scenic, water-filled paddy fields. For photographers looking for the greenest of green shoots, February to April is the best time to visit the rice terraces although if you come a couple of months later, in June and July, you’ll find the fields alive with activity as crops are harvested before Sasih Karo storing ceremonies in August. Walking and cycling is certainly the best way to explore in the central highlands. Quiet country tarmac lanes lead between rice terraces, fruit orchards, spice plantations and pockets of rural life to be found in and around villages like Munduk, just a two hour drive north of Ubud.
If your teens frown at the idea of family holidays, mention Bali and they'll not only race to pack their own suitcases, they'll probably offer to pack yours as well.

Travelling with teens in Bali

With snorkelling, surfing and diving on the menu, as well as hikes, cycling and thrilling white water rafting, it goes without saying that our Bali holidays are amazing for families with teenagers. Oh we did say it. Never mind, the point is, your teens will absolutely love it here. Days are packed with adventure, as well as opportunities to explore Balinese culture, and of course develop a brilliant tan. And because our holidays are responsible, they take care to minimise plastic waste (a huge issue in Bali) – something your teens are no doubt keen on doing themselves.
