Best destinations for solo travellers

Drum roll, please: we’ve run the reports and collated the data to find out exactly where our solo travellers love to go. In summary… everywhere! Our travellers are an eclectic bunch, whether touring the Amalfi Coast or wild camping in Botswana. We feature three continents in our top six destinations alone, and the rest aren’t far behind, including Antarctica. Wherever they go, our solo-friendly holidays all have a few things in common – excellent tour leaders that instil knowledge and confidence, as well as a ready-made band of like-minded travellers. Keep reading to discover our best places for solo travel.
Greece

1. Greece

Like the gods and goddesses of old, it’s all about following your passions here – hiking along island paths, touring crumbling amphitheatres and temples, and joining painting workshops. Who needs holiday pics when you can bring home a sketchbook of sunny scenes instead? Sailing is another great option for seafaring solos; you’ll be warmly welcomed as part of the crew.
Spain

2. Spain

Our solo travellers are often keen to immerse themselves in Spain, signing up to language schools and learning how to cook rural recipes. Our small group tours tend to favour the spectacular paths of the Picos and Pyrenees instead of the popular Costas. You can explore more philosophical paths on our yoga retreats. Both experienced yogis and newbies are welcome – it’s a case of come om, come all.
India

3. India

South India is a popular spot for our solo travellers – for tropical cycling tours in Kerala, overland adventures by road and rail, and wildlife watching in the Western Ghats. There are lots of volunteering opportunities too. Folks with the desired skills and a few weeks to spare are often a great fit for community-led projects seeking an extra hand.
Italy

4. Italy

One place in Italy really seems to shine for solos: the Amalfi Coast. Our small group tours give you the chance to admire it by foot, kayak or boat, usually staying in one spot so you can spend the evenings exploring or getting to know your fellow adventurers over a jug of limoncello. Sometimes, though, it’s less about the region of Italy you’re in and more about the activity – from food and cooking retreats to guided hiking, cycling and even snowshoeing.
Botswana

5. Botswana

Camping safaris are a big hit with solo travellers – and Botswana is home to some of the best pitches in the world. You might set up under a grove of marula trees (a favourite snack of hungry elephants) or by a river where zebras line the bank for a drink. As well as world-class campsites, our safaris offer the other perks: communal cooking and great camaraderie. This is the sort of trip where you make friends fast – and even for life.
Scotland

6. Scotland

Our fleet of restored tall ships, refurbed ferries and stylish yachts all welcome solo travellers to their cosy cabins – often, with no single supplement. That leaves you with a few extra pennies to spend at the harbour cafés, castles and whisky distilleries en route. Nowhere is off limits here – our solo travellers venture from the West Highlands and Loch Ness to the far-flung Shetland Islands.
