Travel guides

Bolivia
Our guide reveals how to make the most of a holiday in one of Latin America's least-visited countries.

Responsible Travel

As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we've screened this (and every) holiday so that you can travel knowing we've worked to maximise the benefits of your holiday to local people and places, and minimise any negative impacts.

Planet

Carbon reduction

Our tours visit important sites dedicated to the conservation of fragile nature and heritage sites threatened by human activities other than tourism. We do everything we can to reduce impacts on operations. Transportation to navigate Lake Titicaca is shared with other agencies and independent tourists who arrive to spend the night on the Isla del Sol. The visit to this island is entirely on foot, so visitors can enjoy the splendid Andean rural landscape and the living culture that still inhabits this beautiful island, one of the most inspiring destinations in Bolivia.

In the Salar de Uyuni, vehicles for 4 to 5 people are used to minimize impact. In this way we also collaborate with the conservation of the remote and remarkable landscape of this spectacular site.

Similarly than in other locations, our tours visiting main attractions in La Paz, Sucre and Potosi are done on foot reducing unnecessary fuel use.

Environment, cultural landscape, and wildlife

We support the conservation efforts of the Titicaca Biosphere Reserve and UNESCO heritage sites such as Sucre and Potosí. Hotels in La Paz, Sucre, and Potosi are committed to reducing unnecessary water and electricity consumption. Our hostels in more remote locations use solar panels to pump water and generate electricity, natural gas is used for hot showers and kitchen. Solid waste is collected and subsequently removed from Isla del Sol, Lake Titicaca, and Salar de Uyuni to be disposed of in collection centers in large cities.

We also do not have activities that generate visual or auditory pollution in cultural, monumental and archaeological sites. We encourage visitors and other users to help prevent further loss of monuments and archaeological sites.
No harm or negative impact on wildlife is allowed during nature tours. One fundamental concept of tourism services is that visitors observe wildlife in its element, this being the best value of the tourist product offered to the visitor, which results in a true genuine experience that explores pristine nature.

People

Local economy

Our tours generate economic income that benefits organized members of small rural communities like the Isla del Sol, Colchani, Salar de Uyuni, that nowadays depend entirely on the arrival of international and national visitors. Similarly, popular heritage sites such as Sucre and Potosí, two large cities in that are part of the cultural and historical circuit in Bolivia, are expanding as prime destinations. All these destinations are actively using tourism as their main economic activity.

Employment, inclusivity and diversity

Our alliance is with members of indigenous communities, men and women, as well as with other inhabitants of destinations we visit, who own the different landscapes we travel. Our guides and drivers are native or locals who have been working with us for many years and to whom we strongly support as our business commitment, using and practicing responsible tourism in seek of sustainability, inclusion and respecting diversity. Bolivia is a country that still preserves a precious identity and one of the most inspiring landscapes that still are home of many living cultures.
