Responsible Travel

As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we've screened this (and every) holiday so that you can travel knowing we've worked to maximise the benefits of your holiday to local people and places, and minimise any negative impacts.

Planet

CARBON REDUCTION
We recognize the significant impact of tourism on the environment, from CO2 emissions and deforestation to animal welfare, reef destruction, and soil erosion, and we are determined to make a positive difference in the world.

For this tour, there are no domestic flights or private car travels. During your journey, you will rely on public buses and 4x4 vehicles that transfer small groups, as these are the ones that can access the areas you will be visiting. This keeps CO2 emissions per person lower.

Vegetarian meals are available during the trip.

ENVIRONMENT AND WILDLIFE

We collaborate with our on-site partners to actively minimize waste, which entails replacing all single-use plastic water bottles with refill options for reusable bottles.

The income generated from the collection of entrance fees at natural reserves, such as Incahuasi Island and Eduardo Avaroa Reserve, is crucial for both the ongoing maintenance and the continuous enhancement of these invaluable sites. This is habitat for various reptiles, amphibian, fish species, bird species, and mammals.

Our local team follows the environmental guidelines and takes measures to reduce their impact on the salt flats and the surrounding area. They are tasked with educating tourists about various rules, including refraining from collecting salt or any other natural materials from the region, avoiding littering, and following the Leave No Trace principles to minimize their environmental impact.

People

LOCAL ECONOMY

We make sure to help the local communities we visit. Every place you will stay at is owned by people from the local area. You will be staying in basic accommodations at a salt hotel, and a hostel/shelter.
The accommodations we use also encourage you to make use of the available local services. By doing so, your funds directly contribute to the local community and economy.

We have plenty of opportunities to support local vendors during our journey, and buy traditional handicrafts crafted by local artisans.

EMPLOYMENT, INCLUSIVITY AND DIVERSITY

Our team, both our staff and knowledgeable local guides, all come from Bolivia. This choice ensures that the financial resources you invest on your trip, directly contribute to the Bolivian economy and have a meaningful impact on local communities.

We are dedicated to creating a friendly and inclusive atmosphere for customers, employees, destination communities, and local operators. This includes implementing a strict zero-tolerance policy for any form of racial, ethnic, religious, or gender-based discrimination in all their activities or operations.
