Responsible Travel
As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we've screened this (and every) holiday so that you can travel knowing we've worked to maximise the benefits of your holiday to local people and places, and minimise any negative impacts.
Planet
Once participants have arrived in South Africa they will share transport as a group. The participants will also spend time walking amongst wild flowers as well as Botanical Gardens on most days.We have asked that vegetarian and vegan food is available on each day and we understand that at our first hotel at least (4 days) food is local-sourced and nearly all the fruit and vegetables will be seasonal.
This is a nature positive holiday as it is focused on plants and flowers. In South Africa there is a move towards eliminating invasive species non-native to the country, and this aspect of the floral diversity will be studied. Participants will share their work on social media after the tour.
People
The tour does not involve wildlife but includes visits to 3 Botanical gardens and a very special place Babylonstoren, a working farm open to the public, for the whole day. The group pay entrance fees for this visit and to the Botanical Gardens. The whole point of the tour is to encourage participants to share their experiences through their artwork. We will also be visiting craft markets and villages/small towns. All the accommodations in this trip are locally owned and the guides are local too. The co-organiser is based in South Africa; only the marketing is handled internationally. We believe that all the staff from the hotels, restaurants, gardens etc. will be paid over the minimum wage. We do not believe that in the Western Cape there will be any discrimination. The trip is not suitable for those with limited vision who will have difficulty with the botanical painting.
