The ultimate jaguar adventure for wildlife lovers seeking jaguars in the wild and other extraordinary creatures. Explore the heart of Brazil's north Pantanal, including "Jaguar Ground Zero". We have had a 100% success rate for many years, with multiple sightings of jaguars and cubs on every single trip. Our expert guides have tracked jaguars for the BBC (including Planet Earth II), National Geographic, the Discovery Channel and Netflix's Our Planet. You'll get up close to hyacinth macaws, tapirs, giant anteaters and more, with more birdlife than you can imagine. Many people are surprised to learn that the Pantanal, not the Amazon, is the best place to see wildlife. This trip shows you why! (Although if you really want to go to Amazon, it can be added to your trip.)
You'll also experience the greener side of Rio de Janeiro and the world-famous Iguaçu waterfalls, from both the Brazilian and Argentinian sides. This is a fully private tour; you can take each day at your own pace. Recommended in Wanderlust Magazine's top 10 Wildlife Trips and The Sunday Times Travel Magazine.
The trip itinerary overview is below, but for full details and availability, please make an enquiry on this page. Responsible Travel will put you in touch with us (the specialist independent tour operator who designed and run this trip), and we will email you directly. You can also phone us 9am- 9pm, 7 days a week.
The main 'season' for this part of the Pantanal is June to November. We recommend reserving as early as possible (ideally at least 12 months in advance). You can secure your tour with a deposit. This is 100% private, whether you are travelling as a couple, friends, family or solo - it's just you. You won't be joined in with others, even at Pantanal lodges. Availability is limited. *2026 dates available* - first come first served!

Look out for the tiny marmosets, both common and buffy-tufted-ear. |
| Day 3: B | Time to tick off Rio de Janeiro's main sites including Christ the Redeemer statue, perched on top of Corcovado mountain - you can take a cog train up through the forest. Then onto 'Sugar Loaf' mountain for cable cars and stunning views. A little bit of time to unwind from the day and then one of our drivers will take you into the city centre - check out the tips you'll get your travel pack for our favourite restaurants. |
| Day 4: L | Early morning start to conservation hotspot, REGUA. Explore Brazilian Atlantic rainforest to spot birds (over 460 species have been spotted here) and a chance to see wildlife up in the trees including lazy sloths and the endangered Woolly Spider Monkey. Our time in the Pantanal will stay with me forever. Although the entire trip was amazing, as a wildlife enthusiast, the Pantanal was a special experience for me. Read full reviewReviewed on 22 Nov 2023 by Wendy Williams
Don't hesitate to book - it is a fabulous holiday. We went end of season yet we still saw loads of jaguar and other wildlife. Iguacu Falls was simply breath-taking and all our guides were fantastic. Read full reviewReviewed on 25 Jul 2019 by Ana Amarawansa

The wildlife viewing is wonderful. The highlight is definitely seeing the jaguars on the riverbanks in the Pantanal from about 20m. Read full reviewResponsible Travel

This jaguar holiday in Brazil supports local people, naturalists and jaguar guides. There is also an international impact by being involved with Panthera, an organisation set up to ensure the survival of wild cats worldwide. Eco tourism in the Pantanal has proven to have a positive impact on the survival of jaguars; there are now more than four times as many jaguars as when we first operated this trip. You'll be staying in locally owned accommodation including ranch houses which are existing buildings, not vast hotels built for tourists. By the time you're in the heart of the Pantanal, you'll be getting around by boat and foot, a lot of the time. Or horses if you are so inclined! In Rio you'll be exploring the greener side of the city, which includes the mountain, Atlantic rainforest and the botanical gardens. You'll also visit a reserve which is regenerating forest and is a valuable home to birds and monkeys.
Sadly there will be some carbon footprint with the distances involved. We're not fans on carbon offset programmes, however, we do provide tips for lifestyle changes you can make (optional of course!) to help.
People
You'll meet different local people throughout your trip. You certainly won't just be guided by one person from the big city (or more extremely from another country like the USA or UK).You will meet expert guides, wildlife, birding and otherwise and you will have different drivers and you will meet local people who don't work in the tourism industry. They range from professionals in Rio to ranch owners and 'cowboys' in the Pantanal.
We also hope you enjoy the opportunities to learn about local cultures, from the 200-year old Pantaneiro culture to the centuries-old indigenous.
This trip supports initiatives throughout this trip including a reforestation project.
On the whole we do have a 'trade not aid' philosophy. However, we do also make charitable donations in the countries we operate in. In Brazil this includes a charity that helps street children with reintegration into their families and learning skills which will be useful to them in life.
