1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your holiday?

It’s too difficult to pick any one thing but our time in the Atacama desert was really
special. It’s a truly unique place, not just the landscape but the people we met their the locals who have either always lived there or the people who chose to live
there. The stargazing experience we did on our last night there is a lasting memory for all of us.

2. What tips would you give other travellers booking this holiday?

Minimize layovers to maximize the time you have to spend seeing the wonders of
Chile. We had an overnight layover in Santiago mid trip and looking back we
think we might have been better pushing through and getting to our next
destination. Make sure to add on a couple of days for downtime if you can we
managed to pack a lot in to the two weeks but it was worth it! You really only need
casual clothes even for meals out etc it’s all casual clothes so you can pack lighter
than you think!

3. Did you feel that your holiday benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?

Everywhere we stayed was eco friendly and we tried our best to eat In
conscientious restaurants, we purchased souvenirs and other personal items from
shops ran by local people as recommended by our guides. We hope we had some small positive impact on our trip.

4. Finally, how would you rate your holiday overall?

Absolutely 10/10 it has really opened our eyes to the wonders of Latin America and we genuinely look forward to exploring more of this part of the world in the
coming years. We did not meet any other Irish people or even English people on our trip and we consider that a bonus it felt like a real escape from our day to day lives and a real adventure! We have already started planning our big trip for 2026 and will absolutely be coming back to Responsible travel for that!

Responsible Travel

As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we've screened this (and every) holiday so that you can travel knowing we've worked to maximise the benefits of your holiday to local people and places, and minimise any negative impacts.

Planet

CARBON REDUCTION:
This luxury itinerary has been designed to ensure that it has a positive impact on the planet. We encourage travellers to plan a longer trip farther away and stay longer in one place instead of taking multiple short trips each year.
One of the accommodations, NOI Casa Atacama are passionate about creating unforgettable experiences where they are committed to managing resources that have the least impact on our environment. They have organic vegetable gardens that provide the hotel with their vegetables which reduces the footprint.

ENVIRONMENT AND WILDLIFE:
When in conservation areas, it was important that we hand-pick lodges that have a positive impact on the environment and actively preserve this for future generations.
For example, NOI Casa Atacama uses solar energy through panels that generate electricity for lighting and is used to heat the water for the hotel. Grey water is reused for the irrigation of the gardens and surrounding areas of the hotel. They also used Eco responsible construction when building the new eco-cabin project and clubhouse.

People

LOCAL ECONOMY:
We promote small lodges that have a positive impact on their surroundings and give back to the local community.
For example, “Hotel Cabaña del Lago”, believes and participates in Corporate Social Responsibility plans and supports the community; one is in Puerto Varas which supports homes for minors.
The hotel also supports the development of ventures, such as CAMM (Center of Art Molino Machmar), First Clean Point in Puerto Varas and Future Public Marina of Puerto Varas. They also ensure they use local suppliers to support local businesses and therefore support the community.

EMPLOYMENT, INCLUSIVITY AND DIVERSITY:
All the guides referred to in this itinerary are employed locally and offer incredible knowledge about the history and communities of Chile. We believe it is essential to have local guides as this provides a more authentic and cultural experience for travellers, as well as being able to show travellers sites off the tourist trail. Employing local guides ensures money goes back into the local community.
