Our Costa Rica & Panama holidays & tours
Our Costa Rica and Panama holidays are on a mission to show you the wonders of this southern slip of Central America – and all the cities, palm-lined islands, mountains, and rainforests that go with it. Thanks to our experts, travel and border crossings are easy. They’re also flight-free, which keeps you in close contact with the communities you travel through – including the ever-changing regional cuisines of sweet fried plantain, corn-leaf tamales and seafood ceviche. Locally owned lodges, public transport, and small tour sizes are also on the menu. Plus, if cruising the Panama Canal, we’ll only recommend small ships and kayaking trips that benefit the places you stop by.

Costa Rica & Panama holiday highlights
Where to go
For starters: the cities. Most of our tours start in San Jose, the capital of Costa Rica, and end in Panama City, the capital of – you guessed it – Panama. In-between you’ll stop by wildlife-rife rainforests in Tortuguero, Sarapiqui and the Talamanca Mountains. Follow the Caribbean coast over the border, and you’ll find yourself amongst the palm-beach islands of Bocas del Toro before heading into the coffee region of Boqueta. Panama is the finish – unless you’re on our month-long overland tours, that is, in which case it might just be the start before heading northwards and across the close-knit borders of Central America.
Ocean coasts & iconic canals
Most of our Costa Rica and Panama tours journey down the Caribbean coast, hopping between turtle-friendly mangroves, beaches and islands. Other routes take in the Pacific coast, cruising – literally, if you like – between San Manuel and the Osa Peninsula, and wild island national parks. The grand finale? The engineering ingenuity of the Panama Canal that cuts between the two oceans. Our small ship cruises make the legendary daylight crossing. Other tours give you free time to visit Miraflores Visitor Centre – your chance to see boats navigating the locks from land – or paddle through under your own steam on a guided kayak tour.
Small group vs. tailor made
Our small group tours of Costa Rica and Panama hit the highlights of the two countries, running on expertly designed itineraries that depart on set dates throughout the year. You’ll travel in a small group of around 12 people headed up by an expert guide who’ll help you with everything from border crossings to tips for the best place for Panamanian ceviche. Accommodation and travel are included, so all you have to do is turn up and enjoy the adventure. Our tailor made trips are designed to suit your interests, timings and budget. Spend more time at the Panama Canal, upgrade to luxury hotels and lodges, or take as much time as you fancy – one week, two weeks, or more.
A great Central American adventure
Panama and Costa Rica are just the start of the irresistible country-packed isthmus between North and South America. Our overland epics take 3-4 weeks to explore Nicaragua, El Salvador, Honduras and Guatemala – and without a flight in sight. That cuts your planet-warming carbon and boosts the fun factor as you travel by minibus, inter-city coach, foot and boat, all while taking the time to stop by street stalls and cafés for fresh tostadas and sliced mangoes along the way.
