Holiday information

OUR SKIPPERS:
Your skipper on this trip will be world-leading, there to provide expert instruction and support, helping you actively participate and grow your sailing skills. From a world record-breaking skipper, a Golden Globe entrant or a multi-time circumnavigator - our Skippers have over 1.5 million ocean miles between them.
LIFE ON BOARD:
This is an adventure, and it should be fun! Our skippers are patient, passionate about ocean life, and dedicated to ensuring you feel relaxed and enjoy the entire experience. With small group sizes, you will quickly get to know your crewmates—many of whom remain friends long after the trip ends.
DO I NEED SAILING EXPERIENCE:
We design our trips for a wide range of experience which means that even if you’ve not sailed, our experienced Skippers will ensure you have a fantastic time. Before you join, we’ll ask about your previous sailing experience and what you want to get out of the trip. That way, we’ll tailor the tour to your specific needs.
KIT LIST:
We provide a recommended kit list well in advance of your adventure, ensuring you're fully prepared. Life-jackets and all safety equipment are supplied, and we also offer 'foul weather gear' available to borrow if needed.
Dietary requirements:
We can cater for vegetarian and vegan diets.

Responsible Travel

As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we've screened this (and every) holiday so that you can travel knowing we've worked to maximise the benefits of your holiday to local people and places, and minimise any negative impacts.

CARBON REDUCTION

We are committed to making sailing holidays and expeditions accessible to everyone, with the minimal environmental impact possible.

To this end, in 2023 we created the first ever methodology for measuring and tracking the Co2 impact of commercial sailing trips in partnership with a specialist called Marineshift360. We are the first sailing operator in the world to track the Co2 impact of our trips and publish the results on our website.

We measure four key drivers of Co2 impact -
Fossil Fuel Consumption
Meals (on board or on shore)
Marina services
Accommodation where that is part of our trip

Our methodology is now being made freely available to other operators so they may adopt it - we are being supported by British Marine and giving input to the European Boating Industry (EBI) to accelerate this adoption.

The Croatia trip has a Co2 impact of approximately 59 KG of Co2 per day. To minimise the impact, we will source locally produced food and, subject to the wishes of the group, will opt for vegetarian menu planning.

We use Solar energy to charge batteries on board and, of course we sail as much as possible, reducing our fossil fuel consumption.

As a business, we are going further because operations are only a small element of the environmental impact of sailing, which is sadly, quite large. Yacht construction is especially polluting with Fibreglass being a significant element - in addition, there are very few recycling options available for yachts. With this in mind, we have designed and are currently constructing the world's first fleet of "Net Zero" adventure sailing yachts - the first of these will enter service with us in 2025 and will have an overall 90% reduction in the full life-cycle impact of the yacht compared to existing sailing yachts. We are using new "mineral" materials which are strong, light and fully recyclable. In addition, the production process uses very low amounts of fossil fuel.

LOCAL ECONOMY

In Split, we work with a local Croatian yacht owner and use their vessel for the trip. We also source food for the trip from local producers wherever it's possible.

We also work with a number of Sailing Charities, giving young people from difficult backgrounds, the opportunity to join a major ocean sailing trip. For 2025 we will be granting one of our Open Oceans places to a Croatian local, giving them the opportunity to sail with us in Croatia, or perhaps beyond.

EMPLOYMENT, INCLUSIVITY AND DIVERSITY

We want to make sailing accessible to everyone. We welcome all levels of sailing experience and ask only that crew treat each other with respect and courtesy irrespective of age, gender or experience.

Part of our philosophy is to adapt to the needs of our guests - you will be contacted well before the trip starts where we'll aim to find out your level of sailing experience, expectations for the trip and anything else we need to be aware of so we can ensure your time with us is as perfect as it can be. We cater for any dietary requirements or preferences.

Sailing is a privilege and to enable the broadest range of people to participate, we created a unique "Open Oceans" fund. This provides fully funded sailing to those who would otherwise not have the means, or confidence to join a sailing adventure.

We allocate at least one place per trip for Open Oceans and aim for 20% of our capacity to be taken by Open Oceans candidates.
