Our Vietnam cycling holidays
Our Vietnam cycling holidays let you enjoy seeing the country from a different angle – specifically, from the saddle. Whether you’re after the challenge of some big distances and steep climbs, or you relish a more easy-going experience that still offers plenty of good exercise, cycling allows for a more immersive take on the natural landscapes and the communities that you pass through. While you can opt for a self guided trip, most of our cycling holidays in Vietnam see you riding as part of a small group. They’re sociable, motivational, and always accompanied by brilliant local guides. They also offer fascinating cultural insights as you visit NGOs, remote villages and sometimes cross borders into neighbouring countries.

What does cycling in Vietnam entail?
How fit do I need to be?
You don’t need to be super fit to enjoy a Vietnam cycling holiday, but you do need to have a bit of stamina. Many of these holidays have ten or more days in the saddle – though neither the pace nor the daily distances are arduous. Electric bikes are available on some trips, if you’d like a little extra power in your pedal – do note that these may be subject to limited availability, and at a supplement. Another thing to keep in mind is that it can get very hot in Vietnam – especially in the humid south, so 6am wake-up calls are not unknown, and lightweight breathable clothing is very useful. The cycling terrain in Vietnam is pretty easy going for the most part, flat roads surfaced with dirt or tarmac. There are hilly areas of course, and some days will see plenty of ups and downs.
Small group or tailor made?
Most of our Vietnam cycling holidays are fully escorted small group trips, following set itineraries on set dates. There’s much to recommend this option: you don’t need to worry about directions or finding places to eat along the way as your guide handles everything. You can just enjoy the rides and getting to know your fellow travellers. A van will often accompany your group to handle any repairs, and give any tired riders a rest.
For those who embrace the freedom of getting around by themselves, private tailor made trips can be arranged. You’ll be issued with comprehensive route notes, maps and GPS, with your accommodation prebooked. And although you'll be riding in quite remote areas, you will be able to rely on 24-hour support if needed.

Point-to-point or centre-based?
A typical cycling holiday in Vietnam will see you cycling point-to-point, staying somewhere different every one or two nights, with your luggage transferred ahead of you for convenience. Given the length of Vietnam, and the amount of optional activities you can combine with your cycling, from market and temple visits to boat tours, it makes sense not to stay in one place for long.
Centre-based cycling holidays will see you based in one location, with daily routes spoking out but always ending up back at your accommodation. These are not common in Vietnam, as the focus on cycling here is to get into more rural, remote areas where there are not a great many options for things to do of an evening.

Are electric bikes available?
Several of our Vietnam cycling tours offer the option of using an electric bike, if you would prefer to have that extra bit of ‘oomph’. These may be subject to availability, and at a small supplement, so do let us know your interest when making an enquiry.

Cycling is a great way to see a country, particularly if you like being active. The cycling distances were manageable in the heat and there was a good variety of other activities: temple visits, walks to waterfalls and in the rainforest.read more
