Holiday information
Low carbon:
Guests stay with us in our local, family run guesthouse and the traditional fish based meals served are very local, with lots of the fruit and veg coming directly from our own garden. Our water is also partly heated from our solar panels, which we are in the process of expanding. We can also help guests plan their train travel from the UK, which normally involves a change in Paris and then in either Germany or Switzerland before reaching Romania. Once guests reach Tulcea City from Bucharest we pick you up by car.
Responsible Travel
As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we've screened this (and every) holiday so that you can travel knowing we've worked to maximise the benefits of your holiday to local people and places, and minimise any negative impacts.
Planet
In 1991 the Danube Delta was listed as a World Heritage Site. Our community started a project in the Area: Carasuhat - an ecological reconstruction area, more than 900 ha have been rendered to nature. It is the youngest land of the Danube Delta, which, in ten years time, will become an entirely independent ecosistem. This project can help us see that sometimes human intervention helps nature. The project was started in 2016 and is already filled with birds, fish and vegetation - it's a Paradise. Our promise is to further promote and protect this area, to treat it as a delta incubator.During our trips you will see many flowers. Please admire them and let them where they belong, in the nature.
We reccommend reusable water bottles to avoid single use plastic - Our water is treated and drinkable. We also ask you to please leave all rubbish in the boat, as we will take care of it.
During your stay please make sure the water in your bathroom is turned off as you leave the room. The same goes for the air conditioning system, the lights and the TV - all this helps save energy.
At our accommodation, our water is partly heated by the solar pannels. Hot water will be available during your entire stay, but as you well know it is better to heat the water with the solar energy than with other non-renewable resources, which happens when it is used excessively so we ask you to help us stick with renewable sources. .
People
We use vegetables from our garden. When we can't cover the needs, our neighbours are nice enough to help us. You will feel the real taste of fruits and vegetables. We are a small family business and besides me and my wife, we have the best cook in the village (try the fish cream soup and you will understand what I'm talking about). In 2018 she become a qualified cook after we sustained her to support the cook's course. But I assure you that nobody can teach you to cook as our granny did.
During summer you will meet one or two students from our highschool. They are those who are interested to develop a career in tourism. We help them to develop a career in the RESPONSIBLE tourism industry. We will offer them an contract after they finish the school.
During the trip we take you to see local crafts. Maybe one of the pictures painted by local artists will become a memory that you take home.
