Ecuador & Galapagos holiday for blind travellers
Description of Ecuador & Galapagos holiday for blind travellers
This Ecuador and Galapagos holiday for blind travellers is a well-rounded tour that goes deeper than most into the landscapes and culture of mainland Ecuador, before finishing in one of the world’s most extraordinary wildlife watching destinations. You can enjoy this almost three-week small group tour in total confidence, as you will be accompanied throughout by guides who have been trained to understand and meet the needs of visually impaired travellers.
Meet your guide and fellow travellers, in the Ecuadorian capital, Quito. Here, the tactile experiences on offer include having a go at making traditional sweets, and a hands-on cookery lesson in the home of a local chef. Quito sits in the foothills if the Andes, and from there you’ll journey further up, to Otavalo, where the famous Saturday market draws crowds of Indigenous traders selling skilfully woven ponchos and other clothing. You can find some wonderful souvenirs here, while your purchases support craftspeople in remote communities where little other employment is available.
Continue on to Ecuador’s Amazon Rainforest where you’ll take a sensory walk, finding out about different medicinal plants, and visit a village to spend time with local women and learn about their lives and customs. Enjoy a dip beneath a waterfall, and a gentle float down the river in an inflatable tube, the sounds of the rainforest all around.
After an olfactory odyssey in Cuenca, where you’ll visit an orchid farm and a flower market, you finish this superb holiday with a few days in the Galapagos Islands. Meet giant tortoises, blue-footed boobies, iguanas and perhaps even try some snorkelling with turtles and rays, while based on the island of San Cristobal.
