Description of Egypt adventure holiday

Follow the course of the Nile from Cairo to Aswan before cruising by traditional felucca to Luxor and making the return to the capital by train to complete, what will no doubt become, a classic Egypt adventure holiday over the course of a week.

From a cruise on the Nile and chatting to Nubian crew members to experiencing the colossal temples and monuments of Luxor and joining a local family for some delicious home cooking, there’s not much that this Egypt adventure holiday doesn’t include all within a week away.

Small group travel is not large group travel scaled down. It is modeled on independent travel – but with the advantage of a group leader to take care of the itinerary, accommodation and tickets, and dealing with the language. It’s easy to tick off the big sights independently – but finding those one-off experiences, local festivals, travelling markets and secret viewpoints is almost impossible for someone without the insider knowledge gained from years in the field. For those with limited time, a small group tour will save valuable time in planning, and on holiday.

Tourism can help local communities. The people have to collect and recycle their rubbish

Learning about Ancient Egypt and seeing the extraordinary relics with a group of people who were equally interested. Also the variety of this trip in particular.

Don't expect luxury, but do expect variety, fun and great fellow travelling companions

3. Did you feel that your holiday benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?


Very much so. We were a small group, we ate at the homes of locals on two occasions, we travelled by train and boat and we stayed at local hotels.

Fabulous - better than I had anticipated.

Egypt is an extraordinary country and exploring it will get you travellers there with the locals, learning about their way of life and supporting as many local communities as possible. Most of the accommodation is in locally owned, small guesthouses. Local group leaders provide a perspective on life in Egypt and local guides are used at major sites.

The itinerary includes a boat trip on the Nile River in a traditional felucca. This supports an ancient mode of transport as well as supporting the Nubian crew in their way of life. The trip also includes a visit to a Nubian village where we share a traditional meal. Travellers can see local women baking sunburnt bread in the same way their great grandmothers would have and listen to men play traditional music.

Travellers visit Animal Care in Egypt (ACE) in Luxor, an organisation promoting the care of all animals from dogs to donkeys. ACE provides veterinary services as well as teaching local animal owners how to care for their animals to give them a longer, healthier life. Travellers are encouraged to donate to the charity so they can continue their work and education.
