Responsible Travel

As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we've screened this (and every) holiday so that you can travel knowing we've worked to maximise the benefits of your holiday to local people and places, and minimise any negative impacts.

CARBON REDUCTION

We do our best to keep our footprint small. That’s why we use low-emission vehicles for our transfers and encourage walking, cycling, and even horseback riding whenever possible. We’ve partnered with EcoMovil El Salvador, a local initiative providing hybrid and electric transportation in San Salvador and the Ruta de las Flores region. It's a cleaner, quieter way to explore.

Part of your booking goes directly to reforestation and carbon-offset projects in areas most affected by deforestation. We support Árboles para el Futuro, a grassroots reforestation program in the Ahuachapán region. So far, they’ve planted over 25,000 native trees, and our travelers often get the chance to join planting days alongside local students.

ENVIRONMENT AND WILDLIFE

We proudly collaborate with local conservation groups working to protect El Salvador’s fragile ecosystems. Through our partnership with Fundación Naturaleza El Salvador, travelers visit protected areas like Barra de Santiago and help with mangrove restoration, sea turtle monitoring, and community-led conservation education.

We support La Montañona Forest Reserve, a community-led conservation project in Chalatenango. Guests can hike with local rangers and help maintain trails or plant trees during their visit.

We design all our tours to be respectful of natural habitats. Our guides are trained to help guests understand how to safely observe and protect local wildlife. During our coastal experiences, we educate guests about endangered species like the olive ridley sea turtle. Our team works with local conservationists to ensure nesting areas remain undisturbed.

LOCAL ECONOMY

We prioritize working with Salvadoran artisans, farmers, and small businesses, ensuring the economic benefits of tourism stay right here at home. In La Palma, guests visit family-run woodcraft workshops where they can meet artisans like Don Miguel, who carves intricate pieces using techniques passed down through generations — and every purchase supports his family directly.

We believe the best way to experience El Salvador is through its flavors and traditions. That’s why we partner with local chefs and farmers to deliver truly authentic meals. On our food tours, travelers meet Chef Lisseth in Suchitoto, who prepares traditional pupusas using ingredients from neighboring farms. She also offers hands-on cooking lessons that support her women's culinary cooperative.

EMPLOYMENT, INCLUSIVITY AND DIVERSITY

We’re committed to creating opportunities for women in tourism, especially in leadership and guiding roles — an area that’s often male-dominated. We work with Mujeres en Ruta, a local program that trains women as certified guides. Rosa, one of our most popular guides, shares her personal story while leading cultural tours around the Joya de Cerén ruins.

We actively recruit team members from indigenous and rural communities, valuing their knowledge and providing real career pathways. In the town of Santo Domingo de Guzmán, we employ Nahuat-speaking guides like Juanita, who leads immersive cultural experiences that celebrate her Pipil heritage and language.

We partner with Asociación Nuevo Amanecer, a nonprofit that provides education, health workshops, and clean water systems in rural villages near Suchitoto. Our travelers often meet the families impacted and lend a hand where needed — from painting classrooms to helping distribute solar lanterns.
