Planet
Our Guatemala Yoga Retreat itinerary has a heavy focus on organic, local agriculture. Our accommodations are a local B&B who specialize in sustainability and locally sourced produce for their nutrition and cooking.During our stay, we visit a local permaculture community located across the lake. We take private boats across the lake to this thriving community and enjoy a delicious breakfast provided in an open air market. We explore this unique market and peruse local artisanal creations
Any time we buy snacks for the road, we look for fresh and local bites.
On all of our trips, we focus on reduction of plastic and make sure that water jugs are available for refilling personal reusable water bottles. In the event of waste, recycle and composting, we direct guests to the appropriate bins and disposal method. We also provide guests with a special discount code for a Grayl water filter if they'd like to reduce plastic waste even more by drinking filtered tap water.
People
Our Guatemala itinerary prioritizes locally owned suppliers including our local B&B. Our accommodations are locally owned and source much of the food from local organic farms.During our itinerary, we do a cacao workshop with a local expert where we lean about different techniques to make healthy treats with pure cacao and explore new tastes, textures and possibilities. We learn about the wide variety of uses and potentials of cacao including its deep connection to many aspects of Mesoamerican history, its cosmetic and medicinal potential, as well as its link to permaculture and reforestation in which we visit the local market to purchase the ingredients, giving guests direct interaction in the community.
We also partake in a Mayan Fire Ceremony led by a local Mayan Shaman.
Visitors will also learn about the cultural, political, and environmental challenges around organic agriculture and what the community is doing to overcome them.
A percentage of trip sales are donated to our partner for their program. We believe that a sound understanding of the local culture and community is essential to a transformative travel experience.
