Responsible Travel

As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we've screened this (and every) holiday so that you can travel knowing we've worked to maximise the benefits of your holiday to local people and places, and minimise any negative impacts.

Planet

Central Europe is coated in National Parks, and Slovakia is one of the most forested countries in Europe. The Tatra Mountains are one of the many we visit, and through our in-country agent; support, awareness and contributions are made to help maintain these unique areas of beauty.

The use of public transport on our trip gives you the opportunity to experience each of the five exceptional countries like a local, as well as decreasing our carbon footprint. In addition, where private road transport is the only option, we use small, environmentally friendly 15-25 seat coaches, rather than larger 40-50 seaters which admit more carbon.

Helping to maintain the locally important sites we visit are all part of the environmental care. A financial contribution is made to the wooden church we visit in Hronsek, which helps with the maintenance. It is similar for the Jewish cemetery in Mikulov where the entrance fee goes directly into the upkeep of the site.

The environment is what makes your experience, and maintenance of this will have a long-term positive impact. Our local leaders encourage refilling and reusing bottles with the safe tap drinking water, as well as setting an example of rubbish collection and litter picking in areas where it is needed. Furthermore, where needed your leader will direct you to the nearest recycling bins or collect all recyclable waste to distribute to the right place later on.

As a travel company we are continually looking for ways to improve and are proud to be ‘Responsible in everything we do’. Education is key, and so all staff, Tour Leaders and partnering suppliers are trained in responsible and sustainable tourism. At our Head Office, we continually strive towards a sustainable and planet-friendly working environment, including having solar panels installed and a company commitment to reducing our plastic usage.

People

Mikulov is the heart of the wine region in the Czech Republic, and on day seven there is a chance to go to the home of Mr Husak. Between him and his wife, they own and run a vineyard where there's the chance to have a wine tasting and a homecooked meal. During this experience you will witness his dedication to preserving the rich wine culture of his village, as well as demonstrating the typical varieties for this yet-to-be discovered region. Whilst here, you will have the opportunity to taste and buy the Czech wine which means the community benefits.

One of the reasons we prefer to use local leaders is so they can give a real insight into the culture and history of the charming countries by sharing their own stories and experiences. In addition to this, we are supporting them financially through employment, as well as other members of the in-country agent.

As a company we have valuable and longstanding partnerships with UK charities Toilet Twinning and Send a Cow, plus many smaller initiatives and projects around the world. We’re members of the UK travel industry body AITO because we believe it’s important to share our knowledge and experience, as well as learn from other operators.
