1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your holiday?

The whole trip was incredible, there was always something new and different each day.

2. What tips would you give other travellers booking this holiday?

If you choose to do the trip overland, there are some long drives on roads
that are not great. Also, crossing between Uganda, Kenya and Tanzania
meant changing cars and guides due to the cost of guides going over the border.

3. Did you feel that your holiday benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?

To some extent, but mainly those involved with the tourism industry.

4. Finally, how would you rate your holiday overall?

Overall the trip was fantastic, our host company was amazing at planning and
organising the trip for us. Our guides were brilliant, friendly and helpful. We were mainly hoping to see animals including the Big 5 and the Gorillas and were incredibly lucky to see these and more. Highly recommended!

Responsible Travel

As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we've screened this (and every) holiday so that you can travel knowing we've worked to maximise the benefits of your holiday to local people and places, and minimise any negative impacts.

Planet

Uganda Wildlife Authority protects all the wildlife in Uganda. We partner with Uganda Wildlife Authority by ensuring our clients visit the parks and conservation fees are paid. UWA gives 20% of all earnings to the communities surrounding the parks who in turn ensure conservation of wildlife and flora.

For every client we take on a trip, we put aside $30 towards community and conservation work. We currently support the Save Wildlife Uganda project which works with local communities affected with human-wildlife conflict by introducing lion lights, providing a centre for women to sell crafts etc.

We minimise trash on our safaris by encouraging travellers to reuse different materials. We provide travellers with reusable water bottles. This is because we no longer buy the small disposable water cartons but rather the bigger bottles that then ensure minimum plastic and trash on our tours. Whatever rubbish generated while on safari must be retained in the car and safely disposed of by the driver guide.

In Rwanda, for clients visit to the parks, conservation fees are paid and these are used to protect and conserve the parks. In addition clients will visit the gorilla guardians village which is a community adjacent to the parks to ensure they benefit directly and therefore join in conservation.

People

We respect the local cultures of the communities we visit, we are not intrusive in our approach. We ask locals to let us know what is comfortable for them as far as bringing tourists into their villages, homes etc. We allow them to make a trail for an experience they are comfortable with. We call ahead and plan everything based on the locals/hosts preferred times and activities and if for some reason they are not able to host us after prior confirmation, we inform the clients in time and choose a different activity.

We visit the Bigodi community and interact with the locals. Get a coffee experience, banana beer making experience, basketry and listen from the medicine man about how he deals with different diseases.

Our naturalist guides are locals in the countries we work in. We also endeavour to use local site guides in the different areas they take the guests. This helps with spreading the tourism dollar to more people on the value chain in the communities we visit. You will experience this when you visit Bigodi village and the gorilla guardians village.
