1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your holiday?
Impossible to say as there are so many brilliant, breathtaking moments and places to choose from. I think seeing our first herd of elephants marching in procession with their babies in tow, was very emotional. As was seeing our first cheetah! Incredible. Inhambane was a tropical paradise and our final lodge at Makuwa was stunning and the perfect place to end the trip. Our two guides, Ayi and Iton, were brilliant.2. What tips would you give other travellers booking this holiday?
There are some long drives, so bring a book and a neck pillow so you can have a nap comfortably. There are plenty of stops along the way for snacks and drinks. Bring good mosi spray and long tops/trousers for the evenings. You don't need to bring too many clothes as you can wash en route.3. Did you feel that your holiday benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?
100%! We stayed in locally owned and run accommodation (no chains), we had local guides. Our host company was also locally based. We ate a lot of local food, especially in Mozambique (fresh fish). As this was an overland trip we used shared transportation and no domestic flights. There were also chances to purchase crafts from local artisans.4. Finally, how would you rate your holiday overall?
Incredible first trip to Africa for me, above and beyond my expectations. My travel partner had already been to Africa and loved the trip and saw her first cheetah, which was her main goal for the trip. Highly recommend. Perfect balance of bush and beach!Helen Richardson review 1 Oct 2024
1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your holiday?
There were many memorable parts! Seeing a leopard so close, seeing the big 5, exploring different cultures - it was not a holiday it was an adventure!2. What tips would you give other travellers booking this holiday?
Take binoculars, don’t worry about packing ‘evening clothes’ - it’s very relaxed. Take a Visa card or enough Rand to cover - Mastercard not accepted at all in Mozambique and very few places to get cash. Euros and dollars accepted but not ££. Take some long sleeved tops - it’s very warm (we travelled end September) but evenings cool and mosquitos plenty. Also take sweater and rain jacket - we had 4 days storms - you can’t book your weather ?? If you don’t smoke and others do on the tour, set out ground rules early on….. I think these trips should have set no-smoking rules - 1 person smoked out of 12 and it was the one thing that spoiled the trip for me.3. Did you feel that your holiday benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?
Staying in places that supported conservation was good. We visited some very poor areas - everyone is very happy but I felt visiting a local ‘village’ was tokenistic. We took small gifts - badges etc - the children are clearly used to receiving gifts and expected them - almost mobbing us. Not one thank you was heard…..4. Finally, how would you rate your holiday overall?
Excellent. The guides were super, if you don’t want to ‘muck in’ and help make lunches etc don’t book this trip. There was great variety - we had 4 days of storms which meant the dolphin/whale trip wasn’t possible but other things were organised and we were refunded straight away. Safari was amazing. The properties we stayed in were all better than we expected - clean friendly and helpful. We were a family which didn’t seem to get communicated to the places we stayed - some gave a double room to my so and daughter but all rearranged to enable a twin.Helen Richardson review 29 Sep 2024
