1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your holiday?
The RIB Safari from Svolvær in the Lofoten Islands, where we saw sea eagles and orcas.2. What tips would you give other travellers booking this holiday?
Unless the trip is modified, this trip involves a lot of travel days, so be prepared. While there were a few pre-planned group activities, research independent activities, as there is a lot of free time to follow your own interests. We found Get Your Guide and Viator to be useful resources to find additional excursions and activities at generally reasonable prices. There were a number of solo travelers in our group who were randomly assigned to room together. Be prepared for small rooms, as is typical in Europe; bring earplugs or noise canceling headphones.3. Did you feel that your holiday benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?
We primarily reduced environmental impacts by using public transportation - buses and ferries. Otherwise, the local benefits would be primarily from our spending in local communities on food and lodging and other activities. I don’t think anything we did specifically supported conservation.4. Finally, how would you rate your holiday overall?
Overall, the holiday was nice. I thoroughly enjoyed exploring north of the Arctic Circle during the midnight sun. Our tour guide was inexperienced and not local; while he handled the logistics well, he wasn’t a true tour guide, educating us on local nature, culture, history, or whatever. The locations of three of our four hotels were fine, though one had rooms facing a noisy street. The fourth was about 1.5 k outside of town, so a lot of time was spent just walking back and forth to get to restaurants, included activities, and optional outings.Deidre McCarthy review 10 Jun 2024
