There were so many memorable parts to visiting Japan: Nara Park with its phenomenal temple, gardens, tea house, deer; walking in the forests on the Nakasendo trail and in the Shinto cemetery in Kiyosan; the delicious fresh food, green tea and saki; the on-time trains; the amazing service and friendliness of Japanese people; and the warm toilet seats.read more

The hiking was wonderful, the temples were intersting and special, the Japanese people are lovely and there is no crime, no homelessness and many clean bathrooms to use; and the stays in Kotahira and the second night in Ryokans were memorable stays and included wonderful dinners.read more

Matsumoto was probably our favorite place, particularly because of the City Museum of Art. Narai was lovely and Tsumago was also quite picturesque. Most of the forested areas were quite beautiful and we enjoyed hiking through these places.read more
