1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your holiday?
Eventful bush walks tracking buffalo and rhino, with the added excitement of a thunderstorm on the way back.2. What tips would you give other travellers booking this holiday?
Take care of any minor bites and scratches since while digging and sweating in the tropical soil it's easy to get them infected if you forget to wash them properly. Typically be prepared for early mornings with a few hours hard labour, followed by downtime in the heat of the day and rewarding bush drives/ walks/ camps in the evening. I found running T-shirts and shorts to be very effective for keeping cool while doing manual work.3. Did you feel that your holiday benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?
The volunteer programme supports a lot of staff directly including guides, cleaners, cooks, security. We were told even the seemingly fun activities such as camp outs and bush walks help by deterring poachers simply by the visible presence of other people. The food donations we provided along with helping build paths, rockery features and remove rocks from the football pitch benefitted the local school. While spreading soil to sow new seeds helped prevent erosion in degraded areas. Given the emissions impact of flying over there it might not reduce environmental impact in the broadest sense but helping the project is certainly far more beneficial than staying in boutique hotels and swanning about all day.4. Finally, how would you rate your holiday overall?
It was an excellent holiday. Amazing friendly and knowledgeable staff. To get the most out of it, have an interest in conservation issues and be prepared for early mornings with a few hours hard work and quite a bit of free time during the middle of the day. The personal payoff in terms of having multiple bush walks and drives with experienced guides makes it great value for money in my opinion.Beata Szekendi review 1 Sep 2025
