Reviews for Falkland Islands tour, birds and wildlife
Leonard Williamson review 15 Jan 2025
1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your holiday?
Seeing 5 species of penguin during the holiday.2. What tips would you give other travellers booking this holiday?
The best way to get to the Falklands is probably via the RAF flight from Brize Norton. I used the Latam route and found it long, arduous and expensive, if one chooses this route start and finish at Punta Arenas not Santiago.3. Did you feel that your holiday benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?
The local people do benefit from ecotourism and conservation will be supported. However, so much air travel is necessary that there must be a negative impact on the environment, offsetting carbon emissions will mitigate this impact.4. Finally, how would you rate your holiday overall?
Overall the holiday was well organised and flexible enough to cope with any adverse weather condition. The internal air transport lacks organisation and flight schedules are a joke.Cindy Kilgore review 1 Jan 2024
1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your holiday?
It's hard to say what was 'most' memorable ... every step of the way there was a penguin experience, a songbird, bird of prey, elephant seal encounter that blew me away. But also, and just as important at the end of the trip, was the daily encounters with the Kelpers (Falkland Islanders). The weather was challenging, but that too, was a part of the journey. I've traveled extensively, and for wildlife, but this trip ... it stands out front of the long list of destinations and activities in the wild.2. What tips would you give other travellers booking this holiday?
Carefully choose your clothing - not too much, not too little. Be prepared for all weather and go for it. Be ready for changes and don't get bogged down by 'your' schedule, just let it ride.3. Did you feel that your holiday benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?
I can't say that I personally made a difference to the local people other than not having met a single stranger there, but they certainly impacted my life. They have a lot to teach us who live north of the equator about 'community' and low impact on the environment. I certainly left with a lot of locals I now call, friends.4. Finally, how would you rate your holiday overall?
Above and beyond. I can't wait to go back and trust me, it's not easy to get to … no matter where you live. Just give yourself a buffer for potential flight delays and cancellations before arriving in Puntas Arenas. And don't sweat it.Sherry Koina review 21 Feb 2019
1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your holiday?
This whole holiday was brilliant. We enjoyed every minute of it. The wildlife is amazing.2. What tips would you give other travellers booking this holiday?
Relax and enjoy. Be prepared that FIGAS transports you according to the schedules they daily prepare. Sometimes you will get to move on in the morning and other times you will have to wait till the afternoon.3. Did you feel that your holiday benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?
Our holiday definitely benefited local people. All of the lodges and the airline are locally run. I loved that the lodges only cater for up to a dozen people as this reduces impact and makes the visit a unique experience. Many things are being done to enhance wildlife habitat.4. Finally, how would you rate your holiday overall?
