1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your holiday?

The best part was our guide, Ahmed, who was knowledgeable, kind, and just a good all around person.

2. What tips would you give other travellers booking this holiday?

Great holiday but I would find another company. The operator was not the best company to work with. We HAD to go to shops where the operator received commissions and the sales people really were all about getting the sales. They were very slow to respond to questions that needed immediate answers. They had no problem changing hotels that were paid for as extra nights and not telling guests until it was almost too late to change. It was all about charging more for extra hotels nights than the hotel itself would have charged. If you have paid for a premium tour in a country where you cannot drink the water you might expect the tour company to provide the water, but no we had to put water in a kitty so the guide could make sure we had safe water to use daily.

3. Did you feel that your holiday benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?

We were told of the projects the operator contributed to but could those be seen? No I don't think so. I don't know how they would reduce environmental impacts. They did give us a cheap ass cloth bag with a logo to use for store purchases.....

4. Finally, how would you rate your holiday overall?

I would give the holiday 1 star if it weren't for the guide. He, not the operator, made the holiday what it was. I am only giving it 3 stars as there were just too many problems; bad food, 8 of 9 people got sick, bad hotels for a premium trip, being pressured to but things one wasn't interested in, extremely long days in the van. On the other side, the informative side of the tour was great, we saw a lot, learned about current and past cultures, saw interesting historical sites, etc.

Read the operator's response here:

Thank you for sharing your experience, Deana. While we’re pleased to hear that your leader, Ahmed, was a highlight of the trip, we’re discouraged that other aspects did not meet your expectations. We regret your disappointment with the shop visits. These stores are selected to support locally owned businesses and artisans and have received positive feedback from past travellers. However, we appreciate that this did not feel comfortable for you, and we regret the negative impact this had on your experience. Regarding bottled water, we understand how you may have expected this to be included on a Premium trip. While it is not an advertised feature, the shared water kitty is intended to ensure access to safe drinking water and reduce single-use plastics. We will review how this is communicated. We’re also sorry that the positive impacts on local communities and the environment were not visible during your journey. In addition to our wider responsible travel commitments, this trip includes experiences that directly support local people, such as a home-cooked dinner with a family in Fès, tea with an Amazigh family in the Dades Valley, and time at Tawesna, a social enterprise empowering local women. The reusable cloth bag is part of our effort to reduce plastic waste, though we appreciate this may not have felt meaningful at the time. We are disappointed that elements of the accommodation, meals, and travel days did not align with your expectations of a Premium trip, and that several travellers became unwell. We understand how this affected the experience and hope everyone made a full recovery. Thank you again for your feedback. It helps us improve our trips, and we are glad Ahmed was able to make the journey memorable despite the challenges.

1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your holiday?

Our detour to Tomorge after the monsoon in the Sahara destroyed the roads. Our trip was MORE authentic as a result.

2. What tips would you give other travellers booking this holiday?

Be prepared for LOTS of driving. Much is beautiful with ample stops.

3. Did you feel that your holiday benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?

Cooking school, and local hotels.

4. Finally, how would you rate your holiday overall?

It was a good trip and happy we made it. Our guide, Mustafa, was charming and helpful the entire trip. It was not in our top echelon however.
