1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your holiday?

We enjoyed many high lights – the first being the opportunity to drive ourselves on a six husky dog lead sleigh through pristine evergreen snowy forest – the Siberian huskies were a wonderful experience – our guide was knowledgeable, passionate and thorough and leading an exciting husky dog experience – it was such an adventure! A sleigh ride led by reindeer into the forest at night to view the northern lights were spectacular – we were fortunate enough to see the northern lights dancing across the skies and Marvel at the immense hugeness and beauty of it all. Our trek across across pristine snow-covered Hills for a three hour snowshoeing adventure was out of this world – our guide. was highly professional, knowledgeable and let us safely through exciting terrain. Our experience being invited into a Sami Homestead to hear all about the history and mythology of the culture, to hear how reindeer farming is carried out in the modern day, to receive stories of what it means to live under the canopy of the northern lights, reindeer farming as a necessity and creating so many different crafts out of natural materials to keep their lives simple and full of the natural world – and to be treated to freshly made home-made cakes that don’t freeze when taken out the daily work on the reindeer farm! And finally a highlight was the wonderful picture Window in our winter cabin staying up to watch the northern lights dance across the sky –followed by a sauna on site still viewing the Aurora . It really was an amazing activity visit to northern Finland - Thank you to Riitta.

1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your holiday?

We loved so many parts. If I had to chose my top three - they were the husky ride, seeing the Northern lights during the reindeer safari when the skies cleared for just the duration of our trip and having the cross country skis to use along the night-lit trails for three nights in a row.

2. What tips would you give other travellers booking this holiday?

Our own good quality ski gear on top of multi layers of thermals/merino/fleecies etc worked well for the temps we experienced (down to -15). However good footwear and 2-3 pairs of sock layers and good gloves are essential. (Gloves and boots (and all other outer wear too) can be hired). For the activities that were less physically strenuous eg husky / reindeer safari / snowmobile - I thoroughly recommend hand and foot warmer sachets. We were fine without these for snow shoes / fat bikes and cross country skiing but really appreciated them for the more sedentary activities when temps were -10 and below.

3. Did you feel that your holiday benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?

We felt we had lots of interaction with the local Finnish tour operators. They were universally friendly, and helpful over and beyond expectations. We have added reviews to make sure that they are given credit for being so fantastic. Our tour Organiser Raiita also deserves a massive thank you. She put this together thoughtfully and completely satisfied what we wanted to do and see (and beyond). She was also very responsive if we had any little questions about logistics during our holiday - answering on WhatsApp within minutes. We would thoroughly recommend her to anyone else planning a similar holiday in Lapland.

4. Finally, how would you rate your holiday overall?

5 stars! We have had a truly memorable and wonderful holiday. We were extremely well looked after without being smothered. Every detail of a complex itinerary worked out and we grew to trust that it just would!

1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your holiday?

I couldn't possibly choose just one! it was a magical experience in so many ways and the activities were awesome, husky ride, reindeer safari, snow shoeing, ice fishing, cooking over an open fire in the middle of the snow and the scenery was breathtaking.

2. What tips would you give other travellers booking this holiday?

Take lots of layers, it was actually unusually warm when we were there (-2) but the day we left it was -25! which felt pretty chilly! Also hand warmers and balaclavas to keep faces out of the cold. Finally some snacks from home if you're taking children.

3. Did you feel that your holiday benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?

Absolutely I was so inspired by the guides we had who lived so sustainably and educated us all on how they lived off the land using the natural environment to make tools, eat and cook. Their culture is really interesting and very different to others we have experienced before.

4. Finally, how would you rate your holiday overall?

An absolutely amazing holiday. I wanted to go somewhere and do something with my family that was very different, to celebrate a milestone birthday. I could not have asked for a more magical experience, (except maybe seeing the northern lights but in hindsight I would take not seeing them over the warmer weather!) The activities were incredible lifetime experiences and I've ticked many things off my bucket list.

1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your holiday?

Ice fishing with Jarmo was great. I actually caught a fish which was big enough to eat and we grilled it over the fire. I learnt a lot about fishing but also about the Inari area and life there.

2. What tips would you give other travellers booking this holiday?

If you are going to see the northern lights you need to be flexible as it is very weather dependent. Include an option which allows you travel a reasonable distance. I got lucky on a snowmobile tour on Inari Lake.

3. Did you feel that your holiday benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?

I met a lot Finnish people who were making their passions a profitable business through tourism. This was especially true of Extreme Huskies who operate with high standards of animal welfare. For two nights I stayed in a family run hotel which served amazing local recipes, including fried litchen. Plus the tour operator had an impressive knowledge of transport options, so some transfers used local buses. In general Finnish society is very environmentally aware.

4. Finally, how would you rate your holiday overall?

Great introduction to Lapland, guaranteed to make you want to return for more polar experiences.

1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your holiday?

All of it ! Finnish Lapland is truly magical ! We were lucky to experience the fun of snowshoeing through deep freak snow the sun came out most days for amazing photos and we experienced the aurora in all their glory on our snowshoe night tour. Every day was different loved the husky safari, the cross country skiing the saunas followed by an ice pool plunge. Food accommodation all great thank you Rita!

2. What tips would you give other travellers booking this holiday?

Don't bother with Kammi restaurant at Kiloppa overpriced dreadful service waited over an hour for food with no apologies and food was no different from cafe menu. But we laughed about it!

3. Did you feel that your holiday benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?

Yes to conservation not sure about local people as some guides were not Finnish but taxis and buses taken were driven by locals.

4. Finally, how would you rate your holiday overall?

5 stars fell in love with Lapland never go on an alpine ski trip again!
