Reviews for Canary Islands walking holiday

1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your holiday?
The walks with spectacular views. The walk below Teide on Tenerife and the Garajonay walk with the cloud forest.2. What tips would you give other travellers booking this holiday?
Though graded moderate some of the walks were actually strenuous. There are a lot of long steep rocky descents on all the walks and so people with knee or hip problems would have difficulty. Take walking poles. Each walk was described accurately on the trip notes so just make sure you read them before booking. La Gomera is extremely undulating and so walks involve a lot of ascent and descent snd hardly any level sections.3. Did you feel that your holiday benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?
Yes, we used small local hotel and used local restaurants and cafes4. Finally, how would you rate your holiday overall?
Our leader David was excellent; very professional, calm and considerate and he gave us a lot of interesting information about local culture and history. The walks that he was given by Explore had a strong downhill bias sometimes as much as 1050m. I think the walks program could be improved by using some more balanced routes with a balance of ascent and descent.Alison Pelikan review 20 Feb 2022
1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your holiday?
All the walks were great especially the laural forest and our leader was extremely good.2. What tips would you give other travellers booking this holiday?
A walking pole was very useful on all the walks as there are lots of ascents and descents.3. Did you feel that your holiday benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?
Yes, we needed to buy our own picnic lunch ingredients each morning from local bakeries and shops and this became something I really enjoyed as I got to know people in local shops and was buying directly from small businesses.4. Finally, how would you rate your holiday overall?
Very enjoyable apart from having to complete all the passenger locator forms but that is no one's fault of course.Cheryl Gooch review 21 Nov 2021

1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your holiday?
Great walks on La Gomera in stunning landscapes.2. What tips would you give other travellers booking this holiday?
Travel light. There was no porterage on the trip (which reduced tippage) which meant you carried your luggage. This included travelling on a ferry (to and back) from Tenerife and checking in to three hotels.3. Did you feel that your holiday benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?
In regard to local people we tried wherever possible to dine out in local restaurants and bars. These were usually the best options. We reduced our environmental impact by recycling wherever possible and reducing waste. Due to the nature of the trip there wasn't the opportunity to support local conservation.4. Finally, how would you rate your holiday overall?
A great walking trip. Stunning island scenery and great local food and wine.Holiday Reviews
