1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your holiday?
The most memorable part of my vacation is the fact that British Airways lost my luggage, and I was without my clothes and equipment for 5 days. In spite of this, the Hassness House staff and my fellow travelers came to my aid in remarkable ways. I thoroughly enjoyed every activity and hike. The countryside was breathtaking. Hassness Country House is a fantastic place to stay. Lucy is a talented and generous hostess, and Dinko is a fabulous cook! Our guide, Derek, is a skilled and knowledgeable leader to say the least, but the man he is, outshines most. His endless energy was noteworthy in his care not only for us, but his colleagues and the grounds of Hassness House as well. On a daily basis, Derek was caring for the grounds (mowing, pruning, making repairs, and even wrangling a wandering lamb), before and after our day of hiking and site seeing. His knowledge of the Lake District is extraordinary, and he regaled us with wonderful facts and stories.2. What tips would you give other travellers booking this holiday?
Be prepared for various kinds of weather and bring walking sticks. Not all the hikes need them, but they're good to have on hand.3. Did you feel that your holiday benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?
I do not think my vacation reduced environmental impact or supported conservation. Thousands of people visit the Lake District this time of year, and the land definitely showed signs of human impact. Around Buttermere Lake, there were illegal campers and some overflowing waste bins. However, I'm certain the local economies benefit by visitors.4. Finally, how would you rate your holiday overall?
