We seek to provide people with slow adventure travel itineraries consisting of walking, kayaking, hiking, biking, wildlife viewing, and more. Kayaking is a minimal-impact activity and offered throughout the entire itinerary. Since the main other attractions of the tour are hiking, camping and whale watching, this tour is almost entirely human-powered. This not only gives a more intimate experience with the land, but it doesn't harm the sea creatures and natural environment we treasure.

When we are at camp we have vegetarian and vegan options available for travelers with a variety of dietary needs. From the minute you inquire about one of our tours we discuss what your dietary needs are and do our absolute best to ensure you are well fed, energized, and satiated throughout your adventure travels with us. Dietary restrictions are always communicated from our office staff to our guides on the ground to ensure our guests are well taken care of.

ENVIRONMENT AND WILDLIFE

This tour includes a visit to the Robson Bight Ecological Reserve. This reserve protects the wellbeing of killer whales while they feed, socialize, and grow. In collaboration with the rules of the reserve, we only whale watching straight from the seats of our kayak. Rather than watching from motor boats that emit gas into the ocean, we choose to whale watch by using our own power. This is better for the environment and is less invasive to the whales natural environment.

Throughout this tour, all accommodations will consist of full height canvas tents. We set up these canvas tents to avoid building permanent structures on remote islands throughout Johnstone Strait in British Columbia. Camping is human powered and allows us to care for the environment better by not extracting natural resources.

This tour also includes a visit to the Whale Interpretive Centre in Port McNeil. The Centre offers tours with naturalist guides who educate our guests on the biological and anthropological threats impacting the population of marine mammals throughout British Columbia and beyond.

LOCAL ECONOMY

At the beginning and end of this tour we recommend all guests stay at a small local hotel in Port McNeil. Additionally, in our pre trip materials we provide a blog with a list of things to do in Port Hardy that includes a list of local retailers and restaurants for our guests to try.

We also pay an admissions fee for each of our guests to visit the Whale Interpretive Centre. This admissions fee goes towards the protection and research of whales and other marine mammals throughout British Columbia.

All of our operating staff and guides get paid at least minimum wage.
