Responsible Travel
As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we've screened this (and every) holiday so that you can travel knowing we've worked to maximise the benefits of your holiday to local people and places, and minimise any negative impacts.
Planet
The very ethos of our style of travel is responsible; small groups on fully escorted tours, experiencing the very best of a region, a culture and a landscape, with a friendly local hand guiding the way. Our itineraries are designed to give our travellers real life experiences without compromising the part of the world we are exploring; to travel responsibly is at the heart of our commitment as a global tour operator. We believe that responsible travel is about the attitude you take with you and the choices you make when travelling - to respect and benefit local people, their cultures, economy and the environment. We travel by these values wherever our groups go; whether exploring remote regions of South East Asia or taking an American road trip taking in Lake Tahoe and Yosemite National Park.
CARBON REDUCTION
Camping is low-emissions!
On short camping trips like this one, meals will be prepared by the group as a whole using a food kitty system to buy supplies en route. We encourage the use of local, smaller suppliers who have often sourced the fresh foods they are selling regionally, reducing the food mile carbon emissions of our food.
ENVIRONMENT AND WILDLIFE
This trip takes in some outstanding wilderness areas and we do everything we can to ensure that following our visit there is no negative trace of us left behind, taking away our rubbish, recycling where possible and staying at approved campsites within the parks with the infrastructure to support our small groups. We follow the park guidelines of activity in order to protect this fragile environment, from staying on the designated paths and tracks while hiking to not approaching or encouraging the feeding of the wildlife we encounter.
In addition to these measures, we financially support the conservation of these areas of outstanding natural beauty through the entrance fee we pay for access and through the camping fees we pay to stay overnight.
These small steps combined make a big difference to the overall responsibility of touring holidays and you’ll notice other measures we take en route too. You’ll be encouraged to travel with a refillable water bottle during the trip rather than purchasing a new plastic bottle each time you want a drink. The overuse of plastic bottles is becoming a massive problem and one which our travellers can easily stop contributing too.
People
LOCAL ECONOMYYour local guide will accompany your group throughout your short 3 day itinerary. Recruited for their knowledge of this great region, they will be on hand to help and assist throughout. Employing locals as group leaders allows us to support local economies through the creation of employment opportunities, but it also gives travellers insider knowledge of the parks they are visiting.
From the best place to hire bikes from in Lake Tahoe to the most stunning hiking trails to follow, they’ll be on hand to help – you’ll even be supporting local industry through bike hire or taking a sailing trip on the lake as we use local suppliers there too!
