Responsible Travel
As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we've screened this (and every) holiday so that you can travel knowing we've worked to maximise the benefits of your holiday to local people and places, and minimise any negative impacts.
Planet
CARBON REDUCTIONOn the Ultimate Northern Lights Adventure, we’ve made conscious efforts to minimize carbon emissions by integrating local experiences and transport methods. To reduce flying, travelers are encouraged to select direct flights where possible and we provide options with recommendations for the least carbon-intensive routes. During the adventure, guests predominantly travel using private transfers between destinations in Lapland, minimizing the need for internal flights. The accommodations we partner with are local establishments that focus on sustainability, some using renewable energy sources like solar panels and others implementing energy-conservation measures to lessen the carbon footprint.
Local transport for the Northern Lights hunts and cultural tours is arranged in small groups to ensure minimal environmental impact, and we offer excursions like snowshoeing and dog sledding that rely on human and animal power instead of motorized alternatives. All food provided during the tour is sourced locally, supporting local suppliers and reducing importation carbon costs.
ENVIRONMENT AND WILDLIFE
In our pursuit to champion nature positive holidays, the Ultimate Northern Lights Adventure contributes to preserving the pristine Lappish environment. Our accommodations are selected based on their environmental policies, including waste reduction, recycling, water conservation, and using sustainable building materials. For instance, many use reclaimed wood for buildings and furniture.
Both the accommodations and activities on this tour contribute to nature recovery efforts. For example, through the entrance fees paid to visit the Sámi museum, we support local conservation projects focusing on indigenous culture and natural preservation. The wilderness cabin visited during the snowmobile tour employs eco-friendly practices by avoiding electricity and running water, minimizing environmental impacts. We also enlighten our guests on the local flora and fauna and the importance of preserving these through responsible tourism practices, guided by local experts who are deeply familiar with and trained in environmental conservation.
These initiatives not only aim to ensure that our tours do not detract from the environment but also help in making positive contributions towards biodiversity and the local ecosystems.
People
LOCAL ECONOMYThe Ultimate Northern Lights Adventure deeply integrates with the local economy of Lapland, ensuring that every aspect of the tour supports local livelihoods. Notably, the accommodations used throughout the tour are independently owned, providing an authentic and personal experience. These range from small, family-operated hotels to cozy wilderness cabins, directly benefiting from the economic boost tourism provides.
Our tour activities, such as visits to the traditional reindeer and husky farms, directly support local herders and dog sled operators, preserving their way of life against more industrialized, non-local economic influences. We also patronize local markets where guests can purchase handmade crafts and souvenirs, directly supporting local artisans while giving our travelers tangible memories of their trip.
EMPLOYMENT, INCLUSIVITY AND DIVERSITY
The staffing for the Ultimate Northern Lights Adventure importantly reflects our ethos of inclusivity and community support. The majority of our tour guides and operational staff are from the local regions, including those from the indigenous Sámi community, ensuring that employment opportunities are provided to the locals. This engagement helps in preserving local culture and expertise, which is integral to the authentic experiences we provide.
Further, we ensure that our operations adhere to equitable employment practices, offering above-minimum wages and fostering a workplace environment that supports diversity, inclusivity, and equal opportunity regardless of race, gender, or background. These practices extend to creating accessible tourism experiences, accommodating travelers with limited mobility or other needs, ensuring everyone can experience the beauty and intrigue of Lapland.
Our commitment extends to inclusivity in the broader sense, with efforts made to engage and support members from typically marginalized groups within the local community, thus fostering an inclusive economic growth model that benefits a diverse demographic.
