Loire Valley
Along the valley of the country’s longest river lies a rich seam of spectacular castles and pretty, historic towns.

Holiday information

Small group tour, ideal for solos & couples:
Small group travel is not large group travel scaled down. It is modeled on independent travel – but with the advantage of a group leader to take care of the itinerary, accommodation and tickets, and dealing with the language. It’s easy to tick off the big sights independently – but finding those one-off experiences, local festivals, travelling markets and secret viewpoints is almost impossible for someone without the insider knowledge gained from years in the field. For those with limited time, a small group tour will save valuable time in planning, and on holiday.

1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your holiday?

Castles and area in general very nice. Good group of people and personable, knowledgable guide.

2. What tips would you give other travellers booking this holiday?

I expected more of the accommodations for the price paid.

3. Did you feel that your holiday benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?

Yes, we visited local restaurants, wineries, etc.

4. Finally, how would you rate your holiday overall?

Had a decent time, but not good value especially relative to other trips I've done this year. Also the host company should provide 24/7 contact or at least local contact for urgent issues, such as no one meeting the group at the airport as expected. I only had contacts that did not work on weekends and the trip started on a Sunday. Not helpful...

Responsible Travel

As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we've screened this (and every) holiday so that you can travel knowing we've worked to maximise the benefits of your holiday to local people and places, and minimise any negative impacts.

Planet

Accommodation and restaurants in the itinerary use locally sourced food which has not been transported long distances.
Walking trips like this have very little detrimental impact on the environment and the locals, as it is a quiet, low-impact activity requiring comparatively few resources to support.
By travelling in a small group, we ‘tread lightly’ to minimise our impact on local resources and the environment.
We work with our partners on the ground to proactively reduce waste; this includes eliminating all single-use plastic water bottles by providing refills for reusable bottles.
The payment of entrance fees to natural reserves and archaeological sites generates income used to upkeep and develop these important sites. We visit several gardens where fees paid support biodiversity initiatives. These include the Château de Chenonceau, Château Royal d’Amboise and the gardens of Villandry.
We rewild 1,075sqft (100sqm) per passenger to compensate for all trip and flight emissions.

People

Local guides keep you well informed about local traditions and cultural-social sensitivities.
This trip brings income and opportunity to the destination community through the inclusion of locally owned hotels, restaurants, and other enterprises, and by championing locally produced food wherever possible.
We partake in conversations with members of the Loire wine brotherhoods, helping them to raise awareness of the cultural importance of wine to the Loire Valley.
