CARBON REDUCTIONEco-conscious accommodation
Palais Le Brun, as part of Accor Hotels, follows one of the world’s leading hotel sustainability programs. Accor’s sustainability strategy is built around ambitious targets: net zero carbon emissions by 2050, a 46% reduction in emissions by 2030 (Paris Agreement-aligned), and 100% of hotels eco-certified by 2026. Palais Le Brun eliminates single-use plastic bottles with filtered water dispensers, carries out sustainable restoration (adaptive reuse of historic buildings), and leverages Accor’s global standards for energy and water conservation, waste management, and plastic elimination.
Low-impact travel
Capped guest numbers (no more than 12 per group) keep our presence manageable even at Malta’s most sensitive sites. Where possible, we use local ferries and public transportation between islands, and focus on extended stays in each destination to minimize transfers and the resulting emissions.
Off-season travel for the planet
By operating outside the summer peak, we help reduce tourism-driven spikes in energy, water, and transport demand, and with them, their carbon and ecological footprints. Traveling off-peak reduces carbon emissions otherwise associated with Malta’s summer surge in energy demand, such as for air conditioning and traffic congestion.
Food and waste
Accor’s global target is a 60% reduction in food waste by 2030. Palais Le Brun, as part of this initiative, works towards offering more organic, local, and seasonal food, responsible sourcing throughout the supply chain, and robust food waste auditing and reduction—supporting both ecological goals and local producers.
ENVIRONMENT AND WILDLIFE
Plastic and waste reduction
Reusable bottles are encouraged, with refills available at the hotel and along the way, aligning with Malta’s waste reduction goals and Accor’s commitment to eliminate all single-use plastic by 2025.
Sustainable accommodation practices
Palais Le Brun carries out sustainable restoration (adaptive reuse of historic buildings) and leverages Accor’s global standards for energy and water conservation, waste management, and plastic elimination — ensuring reduced environmental impact while preserving Malta’s historic architecture.
Preserving cultural heritage
A core part of your trip directly funds the conservation and upkeep of Malta’s unique archaeological sites and museums. Heritage Malta, the national agency responsible for preservation, conducts expert year-round conservation across the very temples and sites on your itinerary—including digitization and innovative restoration projects. Our entry fees and guided visits help support these vital efforts, protecting Malta’s heritage for future generations.
People
LOCAL ECONOMYSupporting local livelihoods
We exclusively engage Maltese guides and expert archaeologists, many of whom have direct excavation experience at the sites we visit. This supports Malta’s academic community—bringing income and recognition to Maltese university professionals who actively advance the island’s research and heritage management. Employing these experts helps retain skilled talent in Malta, supports ongoing research, and fosters collaboration with local and international heritage projects.
Local connection, beyond the crowds
Our tours run in Malta’s quieter spring and autumn shoulder seasons, avoiding the high demand and strain of summer. This lessens pressure on infrastructure and services, ensures a more relaxed community atmosphere, and sustains year-round jobs when businesses most need support.
Celebrating Maltese culture and cuisine
Dining experiences focus on traditional Maltese dishes and flavors at family-run restaurants and local vineyards, supporting small businesses and the continued vibrancy of local food heritage.
EMPLOYMENT, INCLUSIVITY AND DIVERSITY
Experiencing Malta on foot
Many days are fully spent exploring Valletta, Mdina, and Vittoriosa on foot, allowing for deep, low-impact encounters with Malta’s heritage. Walking reduces emissions and immerses guests in local life beyond what vehicles can offer.
Employment of local people
All experts hired — from guides to archaeologists — are Maltese, ensuring that economic and professional benefits remain within Malta’s communities and academic institutions.
Fair and inclusive opportunities
We pay staff at levels that meet or exceed Malta’s minimum wage, ensuring fair conditions across the board. By creating income-generating opportunities for Maltese university professionals who might otherwise rely solely on limited public research grants, we help diversify local livelihoods and support the retention of cultural and academic expertise within Malta.
