As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we've screened this (and every) holiday so that you can travel knowing we've worked to maximise the benefits of your holiday to local people and places, and minimise any negative impacts.

CARBON REDUCTIONThis journey across Mexico – from Mexico City to Puebla, Oaxaca, the Yucatán, and ending on a secluded beach in El Cuyo – is designed with a strong commitment to responsible travel, minimising carbon emissions at every stage.
Travel is done mostly overland, using shared or locally rented vehicles, significantly reducing the carbon footprint compared to typical tours that rely heavily on large buses. A single internal flight between Oaxaca and the Yucatán is included for logistical reasons, but the rest of the itinerary is carefully crafted to limit environmental impact.
Exploration favours low-impact modes of travel: walking through Mexico City's historic neighbourhoods, visits to traditional markets in Oaxaca, and hikes through nature to discover wonders such as the petrified waterfall of Hierve el Agua. These immersive, environmentally conscious activities encourage a deeper and more authentic connection with each place visited.
Accommodation is carefully selected, with a preference for small, family-run hotels and locally owned guesthouses. At each stop, from Mexico City to El Cuyo, travellers stay in human-scale lodgings where natural ventilation, energy-efficient practices, and waste sorting are encouraged.
Gastronomy is also part of this sustainable approach. Meals are based on seasonal produce sourced from local farms, reducing food miles, packaging, and food waste. This cuisine, rooted in traditional know-how, supports local producers and offers a rich cultural experience.
ENVIRONMENT AND BIODIVERSITY
Respect for nature and the celebration of biodiversity are central to this journey. Through meaningful encounters and visits to protected natural areas, travellers experience a side of Mexico that is deeply committed to environmental conservation.
In Oaxaca, traditional markets are not only culinary highlights but also examples of short supply chains and sustainable agricultural practices. The visit to Hierve el Agua’s petrified waterfalls is done respectfully and in collaboration with local communities who are actively involved in preserving the site.
Near Uxmal, a community experience offers insight into environmental challenges faced by the region. Locals share ancestral knowledge, traditional farming techniques, and their efforts to safeguard ecosystems from the pressures of mass tourism. These moments of exchange foster genuine connection and understanding.
In the Yucatán Peninsula, a visit to Ek Balam goes beyond archaeology. Travellers learn about Mayan ecological practices – water conservation, forest stewardship, and deep respect for nature’s cycles. Encounters with native Melipona bees offer a powerful example of the link between biodiversity, culture, and sustainability, as community-led projects work to protect these vital pollinators.
The journey ends in El Cuyo, a tranquil coastal village surrounded by mangroves and untouched beaches. Far from the crowds, travellers slow down and reconnect with nature, while being encouraged to adopt simple, conscious habits: using reusable bottles, avoiding single-use plastics, and respecting local wildlife.
By choosing a route rooted in local and community-led initiatives, this tour directly supports the conservation of Mexico’s diverse ecosystems, while inspiring travellers to embrace a more thoughtful, responsible way of exploring the world.
People
LOCAL ECONOMYThis journey has been carefully designed to ensure that tourism directly benefits the people and communities encountered along the way — from Mexico City to Puebla, Oaxaca, the Yucatán, and finally to the peaceful shores of El Cuyo.
Right from the start, travellers contribute to Mexico’s local economy by staying in small-scale, locally owned accommodations and working with regional providers.
In Puebla, a hands-on visit to a Talavera workshop supports traditional artisans, allowing travellers to meet the people behind this emblematic craft and contribute to the preservation of a centuries-old heritage.
In Oaxaca, local economic participation continues through visits to the lesser-known archaeological site of Mitla, walks through indigenous markets, and experiences in Teotitlán del Valle, where families open the doors of their weaving workshops. Travellers support these artisans not just by purchasing unique pieces, but by learning the meaning behind their symbols and materials.
In the Yucatán, the journey includes time in community-run spaces near Ek Balam and Uxmal, where local residents offer workshops, guided nature walks, and meals cooked from ancestral recipes. These interactions create sustainable economic opportunities while deepening travellers’ appreciation for the region’s cultural and ecological wealth.
The journey ends in El Cuyo, a remote fishing village spared from mass development. By staying in locally owned guesthouses and dining in family-run restaurants, travellers contribute directly to a local economy that resists industrial tourism and instead celebrates community resilience and coastal traditions.
EMPLOYMENT, INCLUSIVITY AND DIVERSITY
This journey prioritises local employment and fair labour practices throughout the itinerary. Over 90% of the staff involved in delivering this experience — including guides, drivers, artisans, cooks, and hosts — are local residents from the regions visited. By hiring locally, we ensure that the economic benefits of tourism stay within the communities.
All collaborators are paid fair and competitive wages, in line with or above national labour standards. We actively seek to work with providers who value inclusivity — including women-led cooperatives, indigenous entrepreneurs, and family-run businesses — thus fostering diversity and empowerment in the tourism supply chain.
We are committed to creating respectful and equitable encounters between travellers and host communities, ensuring that everyone involved in the journey benefits from cultural exchange and shared value creation.
