Spend a day at Teotihuacan, once the Aztec capital, strolling the Avenue of the Dead and exploring the Pyramids of the Sun and the Moon, to learn about life there 2,000 years ago. Other fascinating sites include the vast Great Pyramid of Cholula, and the Mitla ruins near Oaxaca.
Many traditional industries are kept alive in Mexico by the skill and dedication of artisan craftspeople. This tour not only supports a range of small locally owned businesses through organising visits, but it also gives you lots of great opportunities to find unique souvenirs of your holiday. One day might find you taking part in a Zapotec weaving demonstration, watching as a family works on rugs and clothing that can take months to complete. Another might see you visit a family that produces beautiful stonework from obsidian, a volcanic glass-like rock.
Another fantastic way to sample Mexican culture is of course through its diverse and delicious cuisine. And wow, does this trip deliver on that score. Historical sites. Plus Celestún bird sanctuary and the flamingos.

Take your own water containers.
3. Did you feel that your holiday benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?
Yes visit to Mayan family who were so accommodating and benefited via tour operator agreement. Also the meal from local cook in Piste who provided a wonderful spread of food for us.
4. Finally, how would you rate your holiday overall?
Fantastic visit with fantastic tour guide Lu. Great mix of things to do and see.

Where possible we choose to travel by land rather than air. By minimizing the use of flights on our trips, we are making journeys more stimulating and more sustainable for travellers. This trip through Mexico does not include any flights, providing all transport by road. We ensure our vehicles are fuel-efficient and well maintained with regular servicing. We use vehicles that are an appropriate size to suit the group size. For example, we wouldn’t use a 16-seater van if we only had five people travelling with us. We optimize our driving routes to reduce travel time and our carbon footprint, and we turn the engine off when travellers are visiting a site and not in the vehicle.We provide training to trip leaders on water consumption best practices and how to encourage their travellers to follow these principles too. We continue to work with local suppliers on water management initiatives. For example, encouraging hotel owners to provide water refill stations, and in-room signage requesting short showers, repeated towel use and turning taps off. While tap water may not be safe to drink in Mexico, we still encourages travellers to bring their own reusable water bottles. Our leaders will suggest and facilitate the purchase of larger containers of water for the group so that travellers can refill their reusable water bottles from this source. This reduces the number of single-use plastic water bottles disposed of by our travellers.
People
Our trips maximize the opportunity for travellers to engage meaningfully with local culture and communities. Many experiences on our trips also support traditional cultural practices – whether artisanal, culinary or otherwise. In turn, this helps to sustain and preserve these traditional practices so that future generations may continue to learn, enjoy and benefit from them. This Mexican trip includes visits to several family-owned businesses that produce historical crafts using traditional methods. These include beeswax candle-making, Zapotec weaving and obsidian stonework.Our leaders provide travellers with a Spanish language sheet when they join this Mexican trip. Leaders conduct a quick lesson to help travellers become more confident with commonly used words and phrases. Travellers can then be polite and friendly in their interactions with locals throughout Mexico, using greetings, please and thank you to show their respect.
