Overall it was a fantastic holiday! It felt a lot like visiting in the Grand Canyon.I knew that I would be seeing a huge number of monarch butterflies, but I still was not ready for how it would feel to see millions all in one place. Read full reviewReviewed on 18 Jan 2025 by John Aitken

As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we've screened this (and every) holiday so that you can travel knowing we've worked to maximise the benefits of your holiday to local people and places, and minimise any negative impacts.
Planet
CARBON REDUCTIONWe have contacts with several eco-hotels. The first hotel in Cancun, El Rey del Caribe, is a good example of an eco-hotel. For example this hotel has solar panels, reuses water, has some dry toilets in common areas, recycle plastic, cardboard, glass, organic food, etc
Customers who have a vegan diet or are vegetarian have the opportunity to let us know beforehand. This way we can provide a vegan or vegetarian lunch for them with the same quality that our main meal has. Even if there are other diets, we try our best to take it in consideration.
ENVIRONMENT AND WILDLIFE
Part of the fees that are paid go to CONANP who manage the protected area and they run research and conservation projects. Besides hotels, we train local people and we have adopted good environmental practices with the management of solids and wastewater. Overall, this trip is focused on explaining why the protected areas are so important to achieve a rational use of our natural resources. The concept of ecotourism in Mexico integrates also the use of protected areas but obviously setting rules that allow the use of the area.
Our promise to sustain the environment is as following. The Monarch butterfly trip is focused on providing environmental awareness and education to our visitors. The trip is run with a maximum of 10 customers. The reason for this is to be able to provide personalized attention and also to provide environmental interpretation. People
LOCAL ECONOMYOur promise to support the local community is to hire as much local guides and drivers for all the tours that we are offering. In case of the Monarch butterfly tour we hire local people. The trip contracts local guides and supports the local community with a local owner of hotels or restaurants. There are multiple benefits for this. The first one being that the local people understand the value of conserving the forests. The value is that it obviously is positive for the environment but also since this brings job opportunities for them. This is what we promise to do our best to support our community.
We also contribute to social projects that benefit different communities. An example of this is our Honey Project. It has benefit the local Mayan community of Naranjal, has been very meaningful and successful. This project made the change that the community went from 10 liters of honey a year, to be able to produce a 1000 liters per year.
EMPLOYMENT, INCLUSIVITY AND DIVERSITY
Our staff exists of 95% Mexicans and in the trips we run we work with 100% local persons mostly from Mayan communities. In our office, we do not have a specific workplace diversity strategy but we are totally open and currently have a lot of people working with us of different religion, gender and sexual orientation. Regarding equal employment, we have actually more than 50% of women employees working with us.
