Holiday information

Small group tour, ideal for solos & couples:
Small group travel is not large group travel scaled down. It is modeled on independent travel – but with the advantage of a group leader to take care of the itinerary, accommodation and tickets, and dealing with the language. It’s easy to tick off the big sights independently – but finding those one-off experiences, local festivals, travelling markets and secret viewpoints is almost impossible for someone without the insider knowledge gained from years in the field. For those with limited time, a small group tour will save valuable time in planning, and on holiday.
Indigenous communities:
This trip benefits Berber communities by offering employment to disadvantaged women trained by the Amal association. The tour includes lunch at a women-only cooperative and purchasing handicrafts in Chefchaouen, supporting local artisans. Guests enjoy homestays with food and participate in a Berber cooking class, providing direct economic support and fostering cultural exchange with the local communities.

The best part was our guide, Ahmed, who was knowledgeable, kind, and just a good all around person. The informative side of the tour was great, we saw a lot, learned about current and past cultures, saw interesting historical sites, etc. Read full review

Responsible Travel

As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we've screened this (and every) holiday so that you can travel knowing we've worked to maximise the benefits of your holiday to local people and places, and minimise any negative impacts.

Planet

Where possible we choose to travel by land rather than air. By minimizing the use of flights on our trips, we are making journeys more stimulating and more sustainable for travellers. This trip through Morocco does not include any flights, providing all transport by road. We ensure our vehicles are well maintained and fuel-efficient. We use vehicles that are an appropriate size to suit the group size. For example, we wouldn’t use a 16-seater van if we only had five people travelling with us. We plan our routes of travel so that we spend as little time as possible travelling.

We provide travellers with reusable fabric tote bags. The bags are made by women in the south west of Morocco, who are provided with learning materials and training in sewing and embroidery. Pollution was highlighted as an important issue in Morocco during the 2016 UN Climate Change Conference. Following the conference, the government banned the use of plastic bags in supermarkets and has supported initiatives from all industries to reduce waste.

People

All aspects of this trip (on the ground) are operated by Moroccans. This includes our leaders, vehicle drivers, local site guides, and accommodation providers. This trip stays at Riad Nesma in Marrakech. This property is owned by a local couple, meaning that ownership is 50% female, which isn’t the norm in Morocco. The owners work with Amal, a local non-profit association that provides hospitality training to disadvantaged women. Riad Nesma offers employment to women who have completed training at Amal.

We go direct to the source for many of the inclusions on our trips. This ensures that income from tourism is directly benefitting local communities everywhere we go. We also seek out and support businesses owned by women. Tourism can empower women in many ways, but particularly through the creation of jobs and income generating opportunities in small and larger-scale tourism and hospitality-related enterprises. This trip includes lunch at Tawesna, a women-only co-op in Ait Ben Haddou. The women of the co-op love sharing their specialty dishes and stories with visitors, and the income and independence generated is a huge boost to their self-confidence and quality of life.
