Trekking Mount Toubkal in winter is not only a unique experience for our travellers, but also means we are trekking in the off-season. Trekking in the peak-season can often mean crowed hiking trails and packed marketplaces in the city, but off-season travel has many environmental benefits and means we can limit the negative impact of increased tourist numbers on Mount Toubkal. Nature and animals suffer from the crowds and what they leave behind, but by travelling in winter we can visit with a much-reduced overall impact. We boil as much water as we can to minimize use of plastic bottles in a destination where tap water is not suitable for travellers. In the city, we actively encourage our travellers to avoid supporting snake charmers and other wildlife entertainment in line with our animal welfare policy. We always encourage our travellers not to litter and to recycle wherever possible.Trekking Mount Toubkal in winter is not only a unique experience for our travellers, but also means we are trekking in the off-season. People
As we are visiting Toubkal in winter, we are directly providing year-round employment for our incredible tour leaders. Not only do our guides benefit from this, but also the staff in the lodges and gites, park rangers, taxi drivers, and many others, ensuring money stays in the local community. We have been working with the local owner of the accommodation used in Aroumd for years. As we have brought more travellers to his guesthouse, he has been able to grow his business, increasing capacity and providing more employment for his family and local people. Now we are bringing travellers to them in winter too. At a time where visitor numbers to this remote destination are low, we can continue to support his growing business. An initiative incredibly close to our hearts is Education for all. Founded in 2007 in response to the high illiteracy rates among women and girls, Education For All (EFA) provides a way for girls in remote areas of Morocco to access education and prepare for successful careers. It provides them with a safe space to learn, three meals a day and keeps them connected to their communities. The results of this program are impressive, with the ?girls' test scores reaching more than double the national average. Each house is managed and staffed entirely by local Amazigh (Berber) women; one house mother, one chef, and one housecleaner. Education For All provides opportunities not just for young Moroccan girls, but also for the women they employ, empower, and hold as role models for the next generation.
