Description of Northern Argentina luxury holiday
Argentina, the eighth largest country in the world, takes some time to get to know. This luxury holiday in northern Argentina divides 23 days between the north-eastern province of Misiones, and the north-west province of Salta. You get rainforests, waterfalls and wildlife in Misiones province, followed by the bare and striking rock formations and mountains of Salta province.
For the first part, you’ll head north from Buenos Aires, via the floating safari of the Ibera wetlands and vivid tea plantations where yerba mate is grown. Watch as the land gets wetter and wilder – until it culminates in the Iguazu Falls, the largest water system in the world, a dramatic natural boundary between Brazil and Argentina. You get plenty of time to explore here, with three days in a jungle lodge, and a full day either side of the falls, before flying to Salta for the second half of your trip.
In Salta province, the altitude is high, and the landscape is highly strange. Purmamarca is a town famous for the multicoloured mountainside that rises behind it. Weirder is to come as you wind higher and higher – to The Puna, a high plateau between Argentina and Chile, where you’ll drive between ghost towns and abandoned mines.
Descending to enjoy the winelands at Cafayate, famous for its viticulture, you’re soon hitting the road again in the Calchaquí Valleys, winelands which offer rugged mountains, and roads twisting up into them beyond the regimented rows of vines. Don’t worry, you won’t leave without seeing a guanaco – likely in Los Cardones National Park.
What makes this trip luxury? It’s the private guide, and the boutique hotel in Buenos Aires, the luxury jungle lodge at the Iguazu Falls, and the ecolodges on the banks of the Macona Falls. Since this is a tailor made tour, you can edit the trip to suit your particular interests – after all, there’s plenty to capture your attention in Argentina.
This trip operates with minimal internal flights, and the rest of the sights are seen on some truly epic – yet still manageable – drives into the country.

It was very good. We did have a few niggles however, overall we had a very good time and would definitely recommend this holiday. Going to the Glacier and horse riding was the most memorable. Read full reviewReviewed on 26 Aug 2023 by Marianne Haylett
We loved it. Watching a capybara at sunset. Give yourself time to see Buenos Aires. Read full reviewResponsible Travel

With environmentally-friendly tourism at the forefront of our itinerary planning, this is a trip that perfectly encapsulates the cohesion of sustainability, luxury and adventure in Argentina. From handpicked ethically-run accommodation, to a focus on lesser-visited natural wonders in need of protection. For example by staying in eco wildlife lodges in the Ibera Wetlands and Yaboti Biosphere Reserve (for the Macona Falls) before we reach world-famous Iguazu, your trip will help support conservation efforts in these often overlooked but beautiful habitats. Marsh deer, giant anteaters, jaguars, pumas, maned wolves and giant otters are amongst the species protected in these areas.
You will also take just two domestic flights across a mammoth 24 day itinerary, causing far fewer emissions than a more traditional 'highlights' package trying to link all the famous sights of Argentina (plus often Chile and Brazil) in one flight-heavy carbon-emitting package. These flights both cover distances that would otherwise take at least two days of driving and a distance of over 1000km each.

Our slow travel itinerary is designed so you can spend more time in each area, spreading the financial benefits of tourism wider and deeper into communities less visited than on a classic highlights or 'bucket list' package. You will meet yerba mate and tea producers off-the-beaten-path in Misiones, stay in small isolated tourist hotels on the wild Puna, and be able to shop for authentic souvenirs in far-flung towns and indigenous markets across Salta and Jujy provinces. The money that small scale, responsible tourism brings to these communities is particularly crucial after the lockdowns of 2020 and 2021 completely cut off this important source of income.
All of this is done with our community-focussed, highly-trained, well paid guides helping you tread the right path, In fact our local partners are one of the most ethically-focussed ground agents currently operating in Argentina, which is the primary reason we picked them from the hundreds out there.
