Photography holidays & tours

Our photography holidays and tours are less about taking professional-grade shots and more about improving your creative abilities in a friendly, supportive environment. We have the perfect holiday for you, even if you’re a complete beginner armed with little more than a smartphone. Developing your capabilities and helping you engage with the surroundings whether it’s a smoking volcano in Iceland, or a shadowy temple in Vietnam, expert tutor guides provide useful feedback and instruction in beautiful surroundings. Often taking place in remote areas, like Norway’s Lofoten Islands and the Bornean rainforest, our trips rely on the expertise of local guides, and support communities through everything from boat crews to guest houses and local restaurants.

Photography holiday highlights

What to expect

Most of our photography holidays are small group tours escorted by tutor-guides around carefully chosen locations. Beginners, and non-photographing partners, are welcome and while a recommended kit list will be provided, you don’t even need a camera – you might be amazed at what our tutors can help you achieve with just a smartphone. Fundamental to all trips is a supportive environment where constructive criticism helps you improve your technique consistently.

Wildlife photography

On our wildlife photography holidays, tutors team up with expert local guides, helping you enjoy great sightings, without getting too close. In Finland, we use hides in areas bears and wolverines are known to prowl, while in places like Greenland, or Brazil’s Pantanal region where jaguars stalk the riverbanks, much of the photography is boat-based. And while you may be in search of a particular species, you’ll capture many others in the viewfinder as you go.

Landscapes and Northern Lights

Landscapes, whether shaped by nature or humankind, are a central focus of many of our photography tours. While destinations like Iceland or Vietnam – with its delicately terraced rice paddies – have obvious appeal, there are also beguiling diversions to places like Zimbabwe’s Victoria Falls, the botanic gardens of Cuba, and Madagascar’s ‘Baobab Alley’ among our collection, too. On any holiday, you can expect early mornings to take advantage of the soft dawn light. But when you’re tracking the Northern Lights in places like Iceland, or Finnish Lapland, you can also expect some late evenings in the hope of catching these ethereal, spectral phenomena dancing across the night sky.

Architecture

Our photography holidays don’t focus solely on the natural world – they also draw inspiration from the built environment. From the castles of Rajasthan to the ancient kasbahs, caravanserai and medinas of Morocco, and the French colonial-era architecture of Cuba’s Cienfuegos, there is vivid imagery to be captured in light and shade. Inspiration comes from murals in side streets and haunting abandoned mines in Sardinia, and temples and pagodas flickering with candlelight in Vietnam; your tutor-guides will point out patterns, angles and fascinating compositions whether you’re looking at a wide canvas or zooming in on tiny details.
