Planet
CARBON REDUCTION• Saint Helena is working towards a goal to be powered 100% by renewable energy by 2027, and they currently utilise 12 wind turbines across the island which produce 40-45% of the islands electricity annually.
• A large focus of excursions and activities on Saint Helena are focussed on walking – either through hikes or exploring Jamestown on foot.
• Vegetarian and vegan food are available during this trip.
• Food at the hotel, and across the island, is focussed on locally sourced and season ingredients. Saint Helena has strict controls to ensure ethical fishing in the waters surrounding the island.
ENVIRONEMENT AND WILDLIFE
• All marine excursions during this trip are operated by certified providers who are required to abide by Saint Helena’s strict laws surrounding marine life. Divers are prevented from wreck penetration to prevent disturbing the environment, while there are strict seasonal controls on fishing and minimum fish sizes to prevent over fishing.
• Local guides are used for activities on the islands, including as walking guides for more challenging hikes and visits to the island’s cloud forest, providing information on the unique, endemic species and advising on the conservation work operating on the island.

• Local ground agents are used for excursions, guides and transfers on the island, and St Helena Tourism is invested in utilising tourism as a way to increase local employment opportunities.
• Prior to the trip, we advise on local restaurants and cafes to experience. We also include information on local artists, stores, markets, musicians and authors for travellers to support if they so wish.

• Staff at the accommodations used, and those operating excursions and activities are all from the local community.
