CARBON REDUCTION

This program offers several gastronomic experiences, with all options available as vegan or vegetarian and made with local ingredients.

For example, in Salta, travelers will participate in a cooking class with Ana. The experience was born from the desire to share Salta’s culture and keep it alive through an immersive culinary journey, where participants learn to prepare ancestral dishes from Northern Argentina, all using local ingredients. Additionally, at El Cortijo Hotel in Cachi, there is a restaurant that focuses on traditional recipes with local products. In Cafayate, at La Vieja Posada, guests can also purchase a variety of blends, including teas, vegetable coffees, organic yerbas, preserves, and spices from the Calchaquí Valley.

In the Calchaquí Valleys, travelers will enjoy a complete immersion with a local community, participating in activities such as hikes, horseback riding, and workshops on ancestral handicraft techniques, such as ceramics. They will also savor local cuisine and learn about the traditional agricultural practices of the valleys.

ENVIRONMENT AND WILDLIFE

We collaborate closely with Reforestarg. For each of our trips, we plant a tree, contributing to the restoration of degraded native forests.

We work exclusively with local guides and involve local communities throughout the journey.

El Cortijo Hotel holds the "Greener Hotels" certification. The hotel is housed in an old manor in the town of Cachi, in the province of Salta, built with typical local materials such as stone, adobe, cane, and wood.

During the whole trip, the travelers will be accompanied by a local guide who will explain the importance of protecting this area and its biodiversity. While visiting the different ecoregions, the visitor will learn about the differences among these landscapes and also the cultural heritage of the Andean Culture.

LOCAL ECONOMY

Throughout this journey, small villages in northern Argentina are visited, offering an authentic glimpse into local life. Local markets are a highlight, showcasing regional products and crafts. In Cachi, El Cortijo features a shop where visitors can purchase handcrafted goods from local communities, particularly textiles. In Cafayate, the Vieja Posada hotel is home to a cultural house dedicated to reviving the culture and identity of the region. Its exhibition and sales rooms host artists, artisans, and designers, offering a curated collection that elegantly blends the artistic craftsmanship of Northern Argentina with a distinctly contemporary focus.

This space is open to the community, not only providing opportunities to discover and purchase local art, but also offering various cultural activities throughout the year. Furthermore, travelers will have the opportunity to engage with local communities, offering a deeper connection to the region.

It’s important to note that community-based rural tourism programs generate more than just income for local families. These initiatives also have positive impacts, such as enhancing cultural and natural heritage, valuing local customs and identities, and addressing a critical issue: preventing the migration of young people from rural areas to the city. Tourism provides them with the opportunity to stay in their communities and work, contributing to the sustainability of rural life.

This tour allows you to fully immerse yourself in local culture by visiting places “off the beaten track.” Traveling through the north in a private vehicle with a local driver-guide who knows the region intimately gives you the chance to explore hidden corners that many tourists miss.

The services provided along the way come from rural families who are part of tourism networks or cooperatives, such as *Red Turismo Campesino*. These families primarily rely on agriculture and livestock but also generate additional income through the tourist services they offer, as well as by selling handicrafts and regional products. In doing so, this initiative supports the local development of these communities while offering a truly unique and enriching travel experience in locations far from traditional tourist circuits.

With the local community, accommodations are provided in family homes (private rooms), allowing for a more meaningful, personalized experience with local hosts.

EMPLOYMENT, INCLUSIVITY, AND DIVERSITY

Families of the local communities do not speak English, but we work with local guides/interpreters who live in the area.

This program includes Community-based rural tourism experiences, that offer numerous benefits to the local community. It promotes sustainable development by providing alternative income sources, supporting local economies, and reducing reliance on traditional agricultural activities. Through tourism, community members can preserve and share their cultural heritage, traditions, and knowledge with visitors, fostering pride and cultural continuity.
