Reviews
2 Reviews of Slovenia hut to hut hiking holiday in the Julian Alps
5 out of 5 stars
Reviewed on 13 Jul 2025 by Juliette Scriven
1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your holiday?
Swimming in lake Bohinj, just magical! Reaching the top of Mavrinc Peak where
we were rewarded with breath-taking. 360 degree views of the mountains.
2. What tips would you give other travellers booking this holiday?
Bring your enthusiasm for hiking and adventure!
If you have space in your luggage, bring a second pair of walking boots or
trainers in case they get wet.
3. Did you feel that your holiday benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?
Yes - we visited local restaurants and a small family run winery. Every effort
was made to minimise our impact on the Alps and Triglav National Park
4. Finally, how would you rate your holiday overall?
Incredible! One of the best holidays I have ever been on! Thank you to
the tour operator and our guide Aljaz.

Responsible Travel
As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we've screened this (and every) holiday so that you can travel knowing we've worked to maximise the benefits of your holiday to local people and places, and minimise any negative impacts.

CARBON REDUCTION:The huge majority of your carbon footprint on this tour will be caused by your flight to Slovenia. If you come from a European country, we encourage you to check the train or bus options for your arrival to Slovenia.
Once in Slovenia, we move around in an 8-passenger van, covering small distances (approx. 500km in the whole trip!). Of course, this is a hiking holiday and we spend most of the time walking - especially on the 3-day hut-to-hut part which is completely "human-powered".
Vegetarian and vegan food is available each day, although we have to be honest: the selection of dishes is limited, especially when staying in mountain huts. We are constantly communicating with our suppliers and encouraging them to add more vegetarian and vegan options to their menus. Whenever possible we choose restaurants and other venues that work with locally-sourced and seasonal products.
ENVIRONMENT AND WILDLIFE
This is a small group tour. And by small we really mean small: maximum 8 travelers plus our guide. By hiking & traveling in a small group we cause less impact on fauna and flora.
We avoid single-use plastic and strongly encourage everyone to bring their water bottle and drink tap water throughout the trip. Tap water is drinkable all over Slovenia. The three hotels we use on this tour have implemented food/plastic/energy/water reduction practices. Hotel Astoria in Bled also produces its own electricity with solar panels.
There is no entrance fee to the Triglav National Park itself but there are entrance fees to some popular sights within the national park. Because these places are already crowded enough we avoid going there, unless it is just after opening or just before the closing time.
We contribute to nature restoration & recovery by donating to local NGOs. Our last donation was for reforestation in the Karst area which was heavily damaged during the 2022 forest fire.
Our guides are all local hiking guides - licensed by the Slovenian Hiking Association. Everyone has a deep knowledge and understanding of Slovenia's natural & cultural heritage, allowing travelers to learn about local habitats and way of life.

LOCAL ECONOMYWe are a small family-run local company, based in Ljubljana, Slovenia. This is our home and we love collaborating with local guides, craftsmen, chefs, farmers, winemakers, hotels, and other locally-owned gems. We recognize that the well-being and satisfaction of the local people who are not directly involved or benefited from tourism is crucial. We have a deep respect for local cultures, environments, and the individuals who graciously share their communities with us.
In this tour, all accommodations (except the hotel in Ljubljana) and all other service providers are locally owned. All lunch venues are owned and operated by small local companies or individuals, highlighting traditional Slovenian cuisine. We are especially happy to be able to cooperate with great local guides - our friends and colleagues, all born and raised in Slovenia. Our best advocates and the face of the company!
Most of your money spent stays in the region, supporting these businesses and helping individuals build a better life.
EMPLOYMENT, INCLUSIVITY AND DIVERSITY
100% of our employees and our nearest subcontractors are locals. Not everyone owns a Slovenian passport but has lived in Slovenia 15+ years and is a Slovenian resident. Everyone is getting a fair payment, far better than the minimum wage in Slovenia. We have both female & male guides. Their sexual or religious orientation is of zero importance.
This trip is LGBTQ+ friendly. We accept all travelers who have the physical capacity to do this trip. Limited hearing is not an issue. Since this is a hiking tour, limited mobility, limited vision, or cognitive issues might be a problem.
We would like to operate your Trip for a Trip scheme. It is a great initiative and we would like to be a part of it.
