Our snow leopard tracking holidays & tours

Our snow leopard tracking holidays take you up into the heights of the Himalayas for the best chance of seeing one of the rarest – and shiest – animals on our planet. Our experts have secured spots in sought-after wildlife lodges and lined up homestays that support communities and help you understand what it’s like to live and farm alongside these finely tuned hunters. Plus, your trip helps to protect snow leopards and their habitats by hiring local conservationist and rangers as guides, and funnelling the profits from your trip into local conservation projects.

Snow leopard tracking holiday highlights

What to expect on a snow leopard tracking holiday

Tracking snow leopards is a challenge, but a challenge that comes with huge rewards. You’ll trek high-altitude mountain trails – and get all the spectacular Himalayan vistas that go with it. Accommodation is scarce and in high-demand, but our local experts have their ears to the ground and will grab those beds for you as soon as you know your dates. And after days of hiking in the company of the world’s snow leopard experts – there! You might just turn the corner and see one of the most elusive animals on our planet carelessly sprawled on a rock ledge across the valley.

While witnessing a snow leopard in the wild is wonderful, remember to widen your vision to the animals that share its territory too. After all, without prey animals like curly-horned bharals, ibexes and Himalayan tahrs (check out the magnificent lion’s-mane winter coats), there wouldn’t be snow leopards hunting here at all. Keep your eyes on the skies too; that’s where bearded vultures and griffons soar. All our tours have one thing in common: they run in winter. That makes for some spectacular snow-swept vistas, as well as some seriously chilly weather. You’ll be well-prepared though, warmed by challenging treks, cooked lunches on the trail, and cosy lodgings. You’ll also be armed with a packing list written by our local experts who know exactly what gear you need to stay comfy – and alert to any flicker of a speckled tail or glimmer of glacier-blue eyes.

Where can I go on a snow leopard tracking holiday?

Snow leopards stick to the high mountainous borders of Asia, with territory ranging from Russia in the north to Bhutan in south. The Himalayas are your best bet for sightings, especially Ladakh, where we can near-promise an 80 percent chance of spotting a snow leopard. That’s largely down to the lodge, which is in contact with a network of spotters in surrounding villages, giving you the gift of many eyes on the prize. We can also take you to Spiti, a cold desert valley in Himachal Pradesh, to trek another spectacular snow leopard haunt, along with Nepal’s national parks and China’s Valley of the Cats.
