South Africa and Zimbabwe holiday, tailor made
Description of South Africa and Zimbabwe holiday, tailor made
This South Africa and Zimbabwe holiday is a tailor made trip, following an itinerary that includes several days in some of our highly recommended places, staying in stunning accommodation from luxury hotel rooms to safari camps. The itinerary below is just a suggested one based on years of experience of what has worked well for our guests, but we are able to tweak it to suit your interests, budget and timeframe.
Start in Cape Town, with four nights to take in this cosmopolitan city with one of the most stunning locations in the world. From here you take a domestic flight up to Kruger National Park where you have three nights at a private game reserve staying in a luxury suite. The locations just keep getting better and better on this trip, your next highlight being Victoria Falls which you access via a flight to Livingstone in Zambia, the falls forming a natural border with Zimbabwe. The best view of the iconic falls is from the Zimbabwe side and during your time here you also get a chance to take on some of the region’s famous adventures, ranging from bungee jumping to a cruise down the Zambezi.
More wildlife adventures await at Hwange National Park, also in Zimbabwe, and which is famous for its enormous elephant population as well as buffalo, giraffe, wildebeest and impala. There are over a hundred mammals here in fact, and you will be staying in the heart of it at a safari camp, a highlight for many of our guests.
Your trip draws to a close staying in another incredible bush camp, this one part of a private estate outside Bulawayo, from where you can enjoy wildlife watching but also rhino tracking on foot, visiting Matobo Hills National Park, seeing San rock art, and bird watching.

2 Reviews of South Africa and Zimbabwe holiday, tailor made
Reviewed on 03 Oct 2025 by Susan MacLeod
1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your holiday?
The game drives - walking beside white rhinos in the wild and seeing an elephant
charge at lions.
2. What tips would you give other travellers booking this holiday?
Be prepared for the heat but also for cold mornings. Keep your camera charged!
3. Did you feel that your holiday benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?
Yes in the fact the guides and staff were all local. Important in a country with high
unemployment. Hwange seemed more environmentally conscious when it came to
water bottles than other parts of Zimbabwe.
4. Finally, how would you rate your holiday overall?
Fabulous! Trip of a lifetime!

1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your holiday?
Seeing the falls for the first time.
2. What tips would you give other travellers booking this holiday?
If you are going for one week: you only need two days to visit the falls, because we didn’t do the safari, being that we live in Kenya, but you need more than four days to visit Cape Town.
3. Did you feel that your holiday benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?
Yes, I do especially in Zimbabwe.
4. Finally, how would you rate your holiday overall?
The entire trip was amazing! The accommodations were wonderful, the owners of the lodge in Zimbabwe (Victoria Falls 528) were welcoming, kind, and
always available. The two guides in Cape Town (Rachel and
Terry) organised great and peculiar tours for us, allowing us to visit different places at our own time and pace, which enabled us to fully explore the area we were in. In conclusion, our feedback is completely positive, thank you so much for your help, you will be a reliable source to organise new trips.

In 2005, a serious drought caused all but a couple of the waterholes in Hwange National Park to dry up. In the absence of any permanent surface water throughout the park, these waterholes are vital to the survival of all animals in the park. That year, over 1000 elephant died along with many thousands of other species. Desperate scenes were witnessed as herds of buffalo and impala, travelling long distances, arrived at a waterhole only to find it dry. All they could do was rest awhile before turning away to search for water elsewhere, or lying down to die. Elephant bullied their way through to hold their trunks at the pumps, depriving smaller animals of any chance to drink. To mitigate this distressing situation in future years, the Friends of Hwange formed a trust to try and keep as many waterholes supplied with water all year round. The Hwange lodges support this endeavour and the other work that Friends of Hwange undertakes.
Along the Park’s southern boundary, many mammals fall victim to snaring. The lodge has thus has joined Hwange in combatting the effects of poaching, conducting patrols and removing snares.
