Responsible Travel
As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we've screened this (and every) holiday so that you can travel knowing we've worked to maximise the benefits of your holiday to local people and places, and minimise any negative impacts.
Planet
CARBON REDUCTIONBrazil is a huge country and many itineraries include numerous flights which has a huge carbon impact. We want to show that you can explore some of Brazil’s most amazing destinations without the need to fly every couple of days to arrive somewhere new. This 3 week itinerary can be achieved with 1 domestic flight throughout the whole trip, overland and boat transfers are used where possible, we also offer land transfers on a shared basis for those conscious of using private vehicles and want to really minimise their footprint. We’ve utilised the only train journey in Brazil, which is not only scenic, pairing the hub of Curitiba with the beautiful colonial town of Morretes but is also a much less pollutive way to travel. Our partners in Brazil work with a number of initiatives, one being in Forestry, whereby managing plantation forests to sequester more carbon from the atmosphere.
ENVIRONMENT AND WILDLIFE
There are so many initiatives we are working with within Brazil to try and turn the tide on environmental issues. Brazil is unfortunately behind on this front compared with some of it’s Latin neighbours, single use plastic is still commonplace and you will see it frequently, visiting Copacabana, or other beach areas. We believe that education is key, and leading by example. All guest receive an “Eco Travel Kit” on arrival, containing, Sustainable cotton tote bag (ecobag), aluminium straw kit (long and short for cocktails!), fabric pouch to store the straws and a 750ml water bottle. We are working with schools in Morretes and Curitiba to educate children on this so that when they grow up they are able to make positive decisions and are aware of their impact on the environment. In Paraty, with regards to biodiversity, we’re working with local farmers to save the acai plant. Typically the fruit when chopped at the top kills the whole tree, however there is a way of cultivating it to use other parts of the plant so save it and avoid contributing to deforestation.

LOCAL ECONOMYAll of our itineraries aim to ensure that as much tourism currency finds its way into the pockets of the local communities as possible, however this itinerary represents that more than most. We use local guides in every area we work in, most having grown up in that region. We have select restaurants in every destination where we know the owners personally, and our guests as well as enjoying the food there, can learn about the family who own it, where their food is sourced from (almost exclusively locally), whether it’s fish bought at the market that morning, or nearby farms. Many buy their produce from local farmers and collectives, ensuring that money stays local.
EMPLOYMENT, INCLUSIVITY AND DIVERSITY
We are proud to partner with an operator which is lead by two “Women in leadership”. They started the company 22 years ago and have grown their business with conscious practices and an ethos of giving opportunities where they see potential. Their team range from remote workers in Manaus with families, to interns at university looking for their first step in their careers in the travel industry. They believe in equal opportunities both for those directly employed by them and the guides and all of the businesses they support. Brazil naturally is a melting pot of cultures, colours, races and is wonderfully diverse. This is reflected in that everywhere you go, your guide will have a different story, social status, ethic background and upbringing, but all share the same passion for sharing their experiences and views with you.
