CARBON REDUCTIONVolunteer accommodation uses energy-efficient systems and recycling practices to help lower carbon footprints. Volunteers are encouraged to choose sustainable travel options such as public transport, walking, or cycling whenever possible to reduce carbon emissions and environmental impact. Clear guidance is provided on sustainability measures, including how to conserve water and electricity, avoid single-use plastics, and manage waste responsibly through proper recycling and composting. These efforts help ensure that both daily living and volunteer activities contribute positively to carbon reduction goals.
ENVIRONMENT AND WILDLIFE
The farm operates organically, carefully avoiding the use of chemical fertilizers and pesticides that could harm the environment, soil health, and local water sources. Volunteers play an active role in promoting biodiversity by planting native species, maintaining natural habitats, and supporting sustainable land use practices. The accommodation emphasizes eco-friendly living, featuring repurposed furnishings, use of natural materials, and sourcing food locally whenever possible to reduce transport emissions and support local communities. Such initiatives help protect wildlife and preserve ecosystems for future generations.

LOCAL ECONOMYVolunteers stay in locally managed accommodations and are encouraged to support nearby businesses, helping to boost the regional economy and strengthen community ties. The farm itself provides employment opportunities and valuable skills development for individuals from marginalised backgrounds, thereby promoting social inclusion, financial independence, and economic resilience. Donations associated with the project contribute directly to supporting victims of human trafficking or abuse. There is a strong focus on women’s empowerment, as survivors are offered safe housing and the chance to gain employment on the farm, allowing them to rebuild their lives with dignity and security.
All staff members and project coordinators are either Italian or supported migrants, ensuring volunteers experience genuine cultural immersion and meaningful community connection. Volunteers engage actively with local people through farming tasks and social initiatives, fostering rich cross-cultural exchange and mutual understanding. Pre-departure briefings cover cultural norms, local customs, and basic Italian phrases, ensuring volunteers can interact respectfully and confidently. This project offers a unique opportunity to contribute to both environmental sustainability and significant social impact within one of Italy’s most culturally vibrant regions.
