Description of Sweden walking holiday, self guided

The pristine countryside of Sörmland and the wonderful Stockholm archipelago lie right on the doorstep of the Swedish capital and make the perfect destination for a walking holiday. This eight day self guided tour hops through a handful of Stockholm’s 24,000 beautiful islands and leads you to the lakes, castles and lovely seaside towns of the Sörmland region. You’ll be travelling by water as well as on foot, using the network of boat routes that connect up this beautiful part of Sweden.

This is a chance to experience Sweden at its most beautiful. Drink in the quiet as you hike along hidden trails, discovering a real sense of wilderness. Highlights include walking through Stendörren Nature Reserve, drinking in the fresh air as you travel by boat between the islands of the Stockholm archipelago and swimming in the Baltic from unspoiled and secluded sandy beaches.

There is plenty of culture to enjoy, too, as you visit Tullgarn Palace with its huge sea views and explore colourful, history-rich Trosa. Not to mention the military history on Landsort, the Stockholm archipelago's most southerly outpost. For Swedish summer life at its most buzzing, you’ll visit the popular island of Utö and as this walking holiday begins and ends in Stockholm, you can make time to check out the Swedish capital, too.

PRICE INCLUDES: HOTEL x 7, BREAKFAST x 7, BOAT RIDES X 7, BUSES AS DETAILED, SPA x 2 DAYS, BAGGAGE TRANSFERS, PRIVATE BRIEFING, ROUTE NOTES & MAPS, 24 HR EMERGENCY SERVICE

THIS TRIP USES THE SÖRMLAND HIKING TRAIL AS WELL AS THE SOUTHERN ISLANDS OF THE STOCKHOLM ARCHIPELAGO TRAIL

Stockholm Archipelago Trail is a newly established hiking trail with a total of 270 km covering 20 islands from north to south. A handful of the 30,000 islands making up this island metropolis have been handpicked as part of the trail. Each island is unique and offers an insight into archipelago life and nature at its absolute best.
The public archipelago boat system links up the islands allowing you to hop from island to island and explore this wonderful landscape up close.

Top-notch! Carmen communicated very well, chose a beautiful route, provided detailed directions, and had a great team of people providing transit between stops. Everything went without a hitch. Read full review

It was a well put together itinerary- very organised and well supported by Carmen. We could easily have stretched it to one extra day of actual hiking. Read full review

There were endless memorable moments: tramping along the Soderlandsleden very well-waymarked trail, through the woods; exploring the islands at Stendorren and Savo; seeing creatures we hadn't see before, such as a slow worm, an otter, a white-tailed sea eagle... Read full review

Responsible Travel

As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we've screened this (and every) holiday so that you can travel knowing we've worked to maximise the benefits of your holiday to local people and places, and minimise any negative impacts.

Planet

All our trips are about enjoying and experiencing the natural and cultural beauty of the region, in a respectful and considerate way. Our trips are only run with small groups, most often from two people to four people, to ensure that impact on the environment is a minimum at all times, and the most personal and rich experience can be had by all.

We are a member of the Svenska Ekoturismföreningen (Swedish Ecotourism Association) which works towards an improved tourism which protects and takes responsibility for our delicate natural and cultural environment. Our company beliefs reflect this vision.

As our trips are self-guided, we make extra efforts to provide travellers with as much information about the local area as possible, including information about bird, animal and plantlife as well as historical and cultural information. This ensures that, even without a guide, we can inform travellers about the region. With additional knowledge, travellers can go one step further to protecting the environment.

We take responsibility of ensuring that rubbish is handled accordingly. both in the countryside and in the office, with a developed sorting system. Use of paper is spared with all marketing made online to avoid the production of own brochures. Travellers are encouraged to recycle as much literature as possible that they are provided with at the start of the trip.

People

We wholeheartedly support the local economy - our guests want to experience the genuine region in which they are travelling, and our aim is to let it be seen and enjoyed.

Encounters with the locals is a fundamental aspect of our trips, and we therefore make all efforts to use suppliers from the area. With this aim in mind, we ensure all meals are provided from local suppliers with a commitment to using local produce. Where meals are not provided, we encourage travellers to visit locally-owned restaurants, take extra day trips, etc.
We prefer to use accommodation that is smaller and more personal which allows an insight into the local community. Where possible, we use local suppliers (e.g. boat and canoe suppliers). Our aim is always to promote and support the local community.

Our trips are designed so that travellers pass by cultural and historical sites en route, and information is provided about these sites. Travellers are encouraged to visit or take guided tours, and all opening times of sites, shops, facilities are indicated to allow the traveller the opportunity to maximise their visit.

We have also supported the local community by providing translation services of local websites to help encourage tourism from abroad.

Our trips would quite simply not be the same without the support of the local community.
